I just got a new zodias to pair with older 2018 stradic ci4 and would like to have a secondary set up. I just got long awaited stimulus check! Looking at the new vanford 2500 size and to pair it with a 6'9" to 7' med fast rod for finesse plastics. Anyone with experience with the expride or poison and what would balance and pair better.

I fish small plastics on the expride 7-2 ml+ with a 70 size baitcaster. Since you already have a spinning setup I recommend this finesse setup. It's plenty sensitive and the action is great for everything from a dropshot to small crankbaits to jerkbaits and small topwater.

Never used a baitcaster before. Your comment started me looking at shimano baitcasters and I saw the metanium. What is a hg vs xg with these reels?

7.1:1 gear vs 8.1:1 gear or 30 IPT vs 34 IPT

which one of those would be better suited for me considering inshore fishing, and finessing plastics

I prefer an XG for any of my soft bait presentations where I use the rod to move the bait. Texas rig, jig, ned rig, etc.

Oh, I just realized you helped me with the rod selection, thank you! The zodias should be at my door by Monday, Can't wait to try it out. Guess I can cast it out into the snow to try.

For the baitcaster which I am considering as second set up now, for the XG type do you have recommendation on a shimano model plus rod?

The Metanium would be #1 on my list. Followed by te Bantam MGL.

The Poison Adrena is an amazing rod, but I would actually lean toward the Expride because of the action. However, depending on the weight, you may want a little slower action.

For finesse plastics, if going with a baitcast rod, the expride 7'2" ml+ is a good rod. I find it more sensitive than the expride 7'2" mh.

Another rod to consider is then Poison adrena 6'11" m+. Its also a very sensitive rod that will work with lighter plastics.

As for the reel - shimano aldebaran.

It would match up nicely with those rods. The combo will be super lightweight- around 9.5 oz with line.

I had the 6'11 M+ Adrena and it worked great for light weight plastics. The Aldebaran is also an excellent reel. Those are great suggestions.

I'm looking at the metanium on tacklewarehouse and I see two listings; one that is mgl 150b for $419 and one that says dc for $499. What is difference and or which one is better for my application

I'm relatively new to baitcasting set ups, but I recently bought a JDM metanium mgl.  Asian portal through ebay, all in about $320 and the main difference is that the spool holds less line which shouldn't effect your light line application.  I think the new 2020 mgl has returned to internal brass gears over the previous dc version, meaning this should improve the longevity of the reel. I think the learning curve for either the US or JDM metanium 20 is a bit steeper over the dc, but it's cheaper and seems to be an upgrade on the internal components.  If I were in your shoes, I'd accept the learning curve and get what I think is the better and cheaper reel.

DC stands for digital control. The DC reels use a microprocessor to control the cast to help eliminate backlashes.

Some people love them, others not so much.

DC reels are probably better for those new to baitcast reels but it's not a necessary feature.

Now I understand. I think I may try one that is not micro chipped

Hello, I bought a sufix 150yd 10lb braid when I got zodias rod and just spooled it on my 2500 stradic and there is still a good bit of room left(did not realize I should have bought the 300yd). Do you think it will be fine just like that or should I remove it and spool up 50 to 75yds of the old kastking 12lb I had on before and then fill the rest up with the new sufix 10lb to get spool completely full?? Thanks, Rodney

Fill the bottom quarter of half of the spool with mono for backing then put your braid back on.
