Good thing I didn’t bet much! That satellite view looks like one of those northern bogs.

Here's a Google-Earth shot of Phelps Bay looking at Phelps Island where I live.

I've had options of moving to other places - kept turning them down.

Bought the house in 1986...still here.

All of my fishing is within about 2 hours of my house. Most of those in the greater “metro” area are within 30 minutes or less. Living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes offers many choices of lakes varying in size, in addition to some fantastic river fishing which is very under utilized here. It’s a big reason why I enjoy living here to be honest.

My favorite lake for the past two seasons is an hour and ten minutes.

The "biggest fish" lake in a 100 mile radius is 55 minutes, but it's a cooling lake and it can be really, really tough to fish.

There is a HP restricted lake (which means TM only for me) 35 minutes away that can be a decent place to fish depending on the season.  It can be a real pain patiently (or not patiently) running the TM on high trying to get somewhere though.

There is a tiny, electric only forest preserve lake 10 minutes away that is a good place when I don't have a lot of time.

The distance is about 16 miles or so, but the drive can take anywhere from 20 min. to an hour depending on traffic.

I have access to 10 lakes within 40 minutes from my house, that # triples (including st. clair) within 1 hr. Unfortunately, i don't trust my boat on st. clair.  ?

Most of the lakes I fish are rural clear mountain lakes that are electric only but have many choices inside of an hours drive, several around 30 minutes.

Don't be fooled by the term " rural  " as these lakes in 2020 were absolutely pounded......for some strange reason.

Luckily I live on the Shenandoah river where I've retreated from the masses but also watch thousands of kayakers pass by. Lol

Lakes Casitas and Castiac are 50 miles from my home.

My normal and best spot is less than 2 miles from my house. I can load the kayak and gear and be on the water in 15 minutes. I have three other regular places within a 15 min. drive. Variety, as they say, is the spice of life.

With traffic; is that a brutal drive?

When I moved to a new town I kept two things.  My dentist and my Toyota mechanic.  Both are so honest, I can’t let them go.

I have a dentist visit Tuesday. He fished lake Comanche exclusively.  I printed a nap and I have a sharpie.  He promised to pencil out a few kayak friendlier spots - with fish.

I think  that’s a 3.5 hour drive for me.    I won’t fish it unless I can camp overnight.  I have several lakes I categorize as such.

but yes.  I love options!

Not a problem, about 1 hour drive.

Some of y’all are so fortunate to have so many options. I live in Georgia’s Dead Sea for freshwater fishing, tons of options for salt.

Clarks Hill and Santee Cooper are both about 2 hours drive, i fish Clark’s hill all the time as my in laws have a property on it. Never been to santee cooper.

My go to spot locally is a mill pond about half hour from the house. It’s about my only option (rivers aren’t my thing).

Ive got two ponds within a half mile that have good fish in them but are hammered with fishing pressure so I usually make the four mile drive to a pond that has a nice weed line and good fish in it that barely gets fished.

My 3 go to lakes.. 5 minutes, 30 and 50.

Of course my favorite and largest is the farthest and smallest least productive closest.

I'm a ten minute drive from my favorite fishing spot. It takes me longer to fire up the ATV, hook to the boat, get everything loaded, and pull around to front of the house.

I have 15 launches within 30 minutes of my house. That’s just the lakes, not the rivers. Our rivers are small. I can also be on the big water within the hour.

My everyday lake is 8 minutes from me.

Last summer the bank of almost every fishing area around me was packed. I am talking shoulder to shoulder fishing, it was crazy. Luckily I have a kayak, so after I launch the kayak I only have to deal with 3 or 4 other kayaks tops.

Most of my spots are 20-30 min drive. I usually go out for 3-4 hours to make it worth it and cover the area pretty well.

I am all for people taking up the sport, but the amount of garbage, line, and lures and bobber in trees was crazy. One of my last days of fishing, I spent two hours at the end cutting line, lures, and bobber from lay downs in a large pond I fish. It was so messy it was ridiculous.

7 minute drive to the red river. 35 minutes to closet lake and 55 minutes to favorite lake which is surrounded by 5 other lakes 10 minutes away in all directions.

Minnesota has lots of lakes not even developed that are a great escape from boats and crowds and they dont have boat ramps and are great for wader fishing.
