Interesting. Wabasis gets hammered all summer. There are good fish there, but they're all beaten up. 38 minutes ago, Michigander said: Lucky you. I'm basically in the second worst Michigan desert, fishable water usually means at least half an hour in the truck, if not an hour or two. At least I'm not in the thumb, lol. To be fair, I'm counting two connected places as different if they have distinct names, and each have their own access points. For instance I consider the various lower Grand River bayous as distinct from each other, and from the river itself-- they all fish a little differently and have somewhat different habitats, even though they're connected. 55 minutes ago, MN Fisher said: If I had the free time to go an hour's travel to get to a ramp....I think it'd be near 100 places I could launch. Including my 4 current spots, there's at least a couple dozen within 15-20 minutes - granted that almost half are different launch points on Minnetonka - but considering my canoe's speed (or lack thereof), to me it'd be like a new lake. I don't have anything as large as Minnetonka near me (other than Lake michigan, which I didn't count), but counting some of the various bays and arms separately might be similar to how I'm counting a few places, like the Lower Grand. Mostly, though, it's a bunch of little lakes, a few dozen to a few hundred acres in size, and stretches of river between launch points that I like to float. Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted February 14, 2021 Super User Posted February 14, 2021 My primary(hp limited) lake is 32 minutes driveway to ramp. My close to home lake is 3 minutes driveway to ramp but wakeboats/jet ski take over after winter. Quote
SproDD79 Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 For largemouth its a 45-60 minute drive , smallmouth are further north with a 2 hour drive. Both spots are no motors (rowboat only)bodies of water. I feel that the motor restrictions keep the fishing pristine. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 If I fish the delta, my normal launch is 40 minutes drive time away. Otherwise the lakes I fish are about a little over an hour away. However, one of my resolutions for the year is to try some new waters. I plan to expand my range to waters under 90 minutes away. Quote
Big Hands Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 About 2 miles to the 'lagoon' (Castaic forebay), and another mile or so to the ramp on the upper Castaic Lake. When the upper lake is full, I can see the water from my bedroom window. Pyramid Lake is about 25 miles north, Lake Piru is about 20 miles to the east (7 or 8 miles as the crow flies), and Lake Casitas is about 60 miles to the west. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 14, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 14, 2021 I intentionally bought my house based on boat ramp proximity, I think I’m about 1.5 miles from a ramp on the TN river. When I can finally convince my fiancé it’s time and when our renting tenants move out, we’ve got a lake house on a tributary reservoir. It’s got a covered boat dock, albeit I can’t leave a boat tied to it for very long as we are in super heavy wakeboard/water sports area. They even set up a jump like 220 yards from the dock............. I’m going to install some whips but they won’t help inside the covered area. We built all this before wakeboarding was popular hahah. It’s one heck of a walk from the water back up to the house but at least it’s a walk and not a drive . It also comes equipped with deer and turkey for all your viewing pleasure 6 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted February 14, 2021 Super User Posted February 14, 2021 The closest took about 10 seconds to walk across the street to Contraband Bayou. Sadly since Hurricane Laura & Delta I haven't seen much alive. Fin-n-Feather on Toledo Bend is 2 hrs 15 mins. Quote

Minus the wakeboarding of course..... lol My fiancé and I have been house hunting for nearly six months now, and would you believe waterfront isn't part of the criteria?. Perhaps I need to update our 'must haves' to our realtor. Haha in all seriousness though, there aren't many waterfront properties moderately close by to where we want to be. Otherwise It'd be top of the list. My usual fishing spot is the Pamunkey River. It takes about 30 minutes or so to get there. My favorite lake is only about 20 minutes away...but sadly due to it being private, I have to have a friend of mine with me and the stars seemingly have to align to be able to fish it. 1 Quote

Dens228 Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 I have three go to spots....... My favorite and most often fished is 25 minutes away Close second is 50 minutes away Third is 25 minutes away. There's a fairly big chunk of fishable water 10 minutes from my house that's pretty good in the spring but is horrible the rest of the year. Quote

My game warden buddies tell me it’s still legal but it could run to their property and they don’t have to let you come get it . There are at least 6 does in the yard everyday and I’ve seen buck sign but of course they seem to stay nocturnal 51 minutes ago, MN Fisher said: He lives in a town that's one of those that surround Lake Minnetonka, so he's not joking. Always had deer in my yard and good trees for stands, but a development with 1/4 acre lots was on my rear border and it would not have been good to arrow a buck or doe and have it drop in some Karen’s driveway lol. Way north bass guy Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 If you look on the map around my place, there’s almost more water than land around here. I’m about 100yds away from three different lakes I can get the small tin boat into, and there’s literally hundreds of lakes within 1/2 hour of me that I can launch the big boat into. The real gem for me is that I’m about 5 min away from Georgian Bay, where you could fish 24/7 your entire life, and never hit the same spot twice. 4 Quote
