BigMinnow Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 So my buddy and I recently got all the stuff you need to ice fish (a few rods, some buckets, and we even put our money together for a nice fish finder). We’ve been hitting our local ponds with some luck here and there but they are no more than 8ft deep and finding fish isn’t necessarily a challenge. we want to step up our game and try a bigger lake with some deeper water. But we don’t even know where to begin looking for fish. We’d love to hook into some bass but bluegill/crappie/perch would all be fun too. could you guys take a look at our lakes map and give us some advice on where to start looking for fish?? Quote

That area where it goes from 12ft-15ft-18ft is where I would start. Fish usually like these kind of depth changes. It is also off of a point and that is also a good sign. If you don’t have any luck there, I would go to the deeper spot where it looks like it is a basin of 18ft. Crappies (and bluegill) like to roam the basin. If you can find some weeds on the bottom they usually will hold fish. Goodluck guys! Quote
Fishin Dad Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Losslakelunkers has it correct. Fish the deep holes. Drill many holes in the 18 foot area. Walk around and check those holes with your flasher. I don't even drop a line until I see fish on the flasher. The fish will be roaming in the deep basin. If you can find weedlines anywhere in the lake (preferably close to tight contour lines, steeper drops) you will find fish as well. If the weeds are nasty and dead, not good. This late in the year, it is tough to find any good weeds, but I am not sure how your area sets up for that. Don't hesitate to buy a tip up or even better, an ifish pro or finicky fooler and some live bait and set that on a break line or shallow flat for some pike. Good Luck Good luck Quote
