Super User Darth-Baiter Posted February 8, 2021 Super User Posted February 8, 2021 Whomever said swim baits are addictive- truth! I had in my hands today the Deps Tiny Bulldog. It would eclipse my most expensive bait to-date by a good margin. I put it back - but I’d be lying if I didn’t say “I want it!” My local bass eat bluegill big time. if I lost it in reasonable waters, I think I’d dive for it. Hell, I might put swim googles in my kayak just because of it. story time! Tell me. Who has gone full Jacque Cousteau for a beloved bait? Quote
TcRoc Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Can’t say I have .. although I may have spent more time trying to get a lure back than some, going for a swim to get it back probably isn’t happening. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 8, 2021 Super User Posted February 8, 2021 Nope. I have lost a few MB 110's and never once did going in after one cross my mind. I won't be throwing a Roman Made or anything like that, so I guess I don't have to think about too much. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2021 Nope, just my boat as it was drifting away. 2 4 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted February 8, 2021 Super User Posted February 8, 2021 Truth.......I was throwing a new MB crankbait and snagged it in 10 FOW. I stripped down, and grabbed a dive mask, found the CB. My partner thought I was nuts! Folks on the island also got a chuckle ?. First cast after the retrieval I thought I did it again....until it started pulling drag. Caught a new personal best (at the time) 5.5 lb LM. ......I have swam a few more times, but never with the same results 4 2 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 If we're talking about the Mississippi, there's no way. We don't call it "The Sewer of The Midwest" for nothing! Lakes? Hmmmmmm ............ I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. jj Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 No, but I've hopped out in the shallows more than once to get baits out of trees. 1 Quote

Like a friend to babysit my kayak, and my proximity to shore. Quote
DomQ Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Some lures are worth the dip. Nothing more fun then getting down to your boxers in front of multiple people to get your brand new jerkbait back! The only embarrassing part was getting out and apologizing to a guy who was there with his wife. Apparently she's never seen a "pike" that large before. 2 8 Quote

rtwvumtneer6 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Went in after a rod and reel, but never a lure. Backlashed and the momentum pulled the rod right out of my hand. Kicked my shoes off and took my wallet out of my pocket, but drown a phone in the process. Good news, I recovered the rod and reel. They cost more than the phone did anyway. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 No, not a chance. Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 “Naegleria fowleri infects people when water containing the ameba enters the body through the nose. This typically occurs when people go swimming or diving in warm freshwater places, like lakes and rivers. The Naegleria fowleri ameba then travels up the nose to the brain where it destroys the brain tissue”. https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/naegleria/general.html So...NO!!!!! 1 Quote
Deephaven Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 That is why I always wear a swimsuit when I fish. Ok, not really. I am super hot blooded and need to refresh regularly. Quote
Super User GaryH Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 Not for a lure but for a set of car keys. I was on the Ocklawaha river in Florida when I went to toss my keys to my friend and sure enough they ended up in the river. No big deal right. We’ll where we were at was in the middle of nowhere and no spare set of keys. I’m already to jump in when my friend points out a gator around 100 or so feet behind me in the water. I wait awhile and it just stays there. So I decide before it gets dark I have to go in. I guess at least 10 minutes go buy and my friend notices that the gator went down and out of site. To make a long story shorter, I found my keys and got out in one piece but I hope I never have to do that again. 1 Quote
billmac Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Many times when I was younger. In fact I added significantly to my existing tackle by finding lures others lost. Quote
craww Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Until they start making RC 0.5’s again, yeah, yeah I do lol. Quote
Hewhospeaksmuchbull Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 No need my lure is firmly attached. Quote
Cdn Angler Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I flipped what I thought was my unflippable kayak (not when the seat is on properly dum dum) and proceeded to dive for 2 rods, my car keys, my wallet, various lures and God knows what else. In about 12 feet of water. I somehow found all but my wallet and had to tear apart my car to find enough change for gas money to make it home. I now carry goggles just in case. And yes I've swam for snags from the bank a few times. Usually only if at the end of the day so I'm going home anyways. The last time this happened I was ready to go home skunked and I snagged like a $3 swimbait jig head. I wasn't willing to make the trip a total negative, so in I went as it was clearly stuck on a tree limb near the surface. 1 Quote
