Hey bass fishin' fam!

As with anyone who follows this dark hole of the forums, I am sure you have compared Garmins LiveScope vs Lowrances Active Target as I have... I have had LiveScope on my boat for "roughly" two years now, and recently asked a buddy who had the Live Target system to let me tag along to take a peek of that new product... That was a month ago...

At first, I was VERY impressed with Live Target and thought it was much clearer interference wise... Kind of made me upset TBH (lol)... but Garmin came out with an update just a week later that kills the interference that we [livescope users] called the "ghost tree"... and it's gone...

In short, Live Scope and Live Target are all "apples to apples" now. It's now only what you are confortable with... Same tech, diff user interface (or whatever matches the units you already have whether it's Garmin or Lowrance)...

Live Target is being rented from Garmin so it’s not apples to apples. A company would never let it’s competitors have the exact same technology.

^^^^^ Yea, I didn't understand the post. Looked like it was copy and pasted from another forum or something since Lowrance is releasing Active Target soon. Active Target was mentioned first then Live Target was what Live Scope was being compared to later in the post. I have always heard Live Scope was 100x better than Live Target so it wouldn't make sense for Garmin to need an update to match the Live Target.

But I don't know, just didn't understand what he was trying to say.

Last time I hop on this forum after a night of drinking! haha...

Anyways, (I think) what I was trying to say with "apples to apples" was that the differences between them are pretty small now, and it really comes down to brand preference and what makes sense for you in an ease-of-use prospective... I didn't mean to imply that they were the exact same technology, because they definately are not... Initially when Lowrance came out with their version of Livescope, it sucked pretty bad, but they came back with a rather comparable device imo... Lastly, I don't think that Garmin put out the update to compete with Lowrance at all, but the users have been complaining about the "ghost tree" for like a year and it's all but gone now (finally)...

Sorry about the confusing post!

I wonder since this tech. is 2-3 years old for Garmin wonder what they have been sitting on waiting for someone else to catch up before they drop the next thing? I just wonder since i am in the market for a new electronics all the way around. Trolling motor graphs whole 9 yards. I am now having a hard time deciding between the 2. Consesnus i get is Trolling motor Ghost. no its not the most powerful or quiet. But it works an has has very few problems an Spot lock was the about the best. Lowrance again for the Down/Side an 2d sonar. but Garmin for the Live scope.

One time I got a little toasty, opened a credit card, signed onto TW, bought two power poles, then said "Screw it, might as well max this thing out", then proceeded to fill my cart until it was maxed... Boy that was a hard one to explain to the wife...

So... let me preface with the fact that I am not proud of what I did and it took me a while to climb my dumb a** out of it... but she still doesn't know that I was the one who purchased them... Thinks my tourny partener won them in a kayak tourney (like that makes sense), and since he always fishes trails with me, gave them to me so we can better compete in the boat tourneys...

Anyways, I ended up taking up side gigs around my neighborhood until I paid off all 5k in secret... And I'm still not sure what was worse, the guilt, or the extra work that I had to do... never again...

I still have both poles though :P

That's funny.  Actually, the reason I am here on this thread is because I just found out I received the 2nd stimulus of 1K.  (I don't know why we got it and it was sent to an account I barely use anymore.)  Anyways, the 1K might be enough to get me to buy Livescope.  LOL- I am not going to tell my wife about it.

So you doubled down on the maxing out of the credit card by lying to her about where the Power Poles cakes from? On top of that you told her your partner won them both in a kayak tournament?

You’re not the best decision maker are you? ?

Ok, I’ll quit busting your balls. I’m just messing with you.

Glad you’re still alive though! ?

Ok, I’m seriously done this time.

So the brand new corvette your wife is driving around town, she won that in a quilting competition right? ?

Ok, I need to go to work now!

I’ve said it many times, I should have started selling stuff to fishermen years ago. They will buy anything!

Exactly!  There  is NO COMPETITION!  Garmin wins.  It is THERE technology.  I always assumed the lawsuit settlement agreement was that Garmin could go back to using down imagaing and garmin would license the livescope technology to Lowrance...

I am a Garmin user and just do not like the interfacing of the other brands, but I would like to use the Revel overlay.  I think that is very good.

Might I suggest leaving those other forums behind, and stick with this one - a bright light.

I drunk ordered new lithium batteries for my boat. Yeah...5 of them. One dedicated solely to my Garmin 126V and Livescope. Oh yeah. And a new 4 bank charger for them plus a new single 10 amp charger for the 5th battery.

Oh well. Only one smart move here. Install them.
