So I’ve been trying a new concept for me. Reading articles and watching videos it seems every one has there favorite line for a different technique. Lots of these though seemed to be fished on the same rod. So I have spoiled up the same tatula sv reel with 8,12&20 lb test line. Then if I switch from a chatterbait to a light swimbait on a jig head to a 1/2 oz jig I can use the same rod. Also if I have a bad professional overruns then at least I can still use that rod and the same technique though not with my preference of line size. Thoughts

If I were going to do something like that. I would rather have a 3 different rods and one reel and just switch the reel between the rods and keep the same line on the one reel. A M, MH and H rod and 40 lb braid on the reel. I could fish a treble hook bait, a Texas rig and a Frog. I would just adjust drag and add leaders as needed.

Why not multiple reels to match with multiple rods?

Why limit yourself?

Nothing wrong with being frugal. But denying the Monkey can get you hurt.? I was told that you need a rod & reel for each type of lure and each weight of that lure. Is that not correct? Wait. Wait. No. That's actually what I told my wife.

I would think you would want 1 reel and many rods.....  Just my thoughts.

I would rather just have multiple rod to use, it is just easier to have a plan on what you are going to do that day out at the lake. I normal have 2-3 rods with different things tied on so I could just reel up and pick up a different rod and throw that out.

Believe it or don't, but I recall reading (maybe a decade or so ago) that Rick Clunn tried something similar for a couple of BASS seasons.    His approach was, as I recall, that he'd found a rod that he really liked and he was of the opinion that switching rods & reels to use a different technique caused the first few casts to be off, because you weren't tuned in as you could be to that particular rod & reel.    His approach was to use 1 rod that he liked for everything.   He'd threw everything on the same rod plastics/spinner baits/ chatter baits/  cranks - everything.    He took it one step farther by using the same model of reel.  The only variable was different rigs assigned to throw different baits might have different line, appropriate to the technique.  I don't know if you recall but Rick Clunn did have a Bass Pro signature reel at one time, not sure if this was THE reel or not.

This try must have turned out to have mediocre results because I don't remember any out door writers scribing about what a great idea Rick Clunn had. My opinion is just because I can't recall if Rick Clunn has decent - average or mediocre seasons trying this option doesn't automatically made this a stupid idea.    I wonder if my fishing would improve if I had 20 or so Shimano Antares to distribute to the different technique rods I already own?  If only Shimano would finance this modest, fairly scientific attempt to improve my fishing skills.

Thanks for the input. Currently I fish from a pontoon boat so it’s easier to store reels and line than xtra poles. Maybe I can upgrade to a bass boat in the future. Thinking a combination of 3-4 rods with different reels set up to accommodate different techniques. Clearly I have to get better at predicting what they will bite because I frequently have 3-4 rods loaded with different techniques and I don’t get a bite on any of them. Eventually i figure out something they like. Now my son is a great net man. He will net the fish and hold the rod while I get the fish off and get a picture. He does think that a lure that catches a fish should return to the water before the fish does

I kayak fish and I have decide to cut my stuff back to just 4 set ups period. Tired of all the different set ups and most dont even get used.  Plus all the storage nightmares. I am leaning though to maybe two rods for one reel on at least one or two of those set ups.

One rod, one reel, multiple leaders.

That's it.  It would probably save you some time switching too.
