I have had 4 rods broken and only 1 of them has been my fault my friends have fell and broke them, jammed the tip into the ground, and  have bent the tip too far, so I lifted a too heavy fish and my tip broke that one was my fault. This is why I just fish with my neighbor, he is the only one that hasn’t broke 1 of my rods.

How have your friends broke your rods, and how many?

My "friend" had four legs, and weighed a hundred pounds. She broke several of my rods. And she was always forgiven!

Sactly what Steveo said. I once had a buddy of mine push the button on my bait caster/crank bait set up. I had to reline the reel...?

I usually threaten whoever asks to use a rod. They break it they buy it is what I say. One time I just purchased a brand new abu garcia veracity rod, first weekend out I was fishing with the fiancee and some kid comes walking over all excited to see a fish, well doesn't the little turd walk directly on the first 12" of my brand new rod. He almost took a dip in the lake. Rod was okay and kid didn't really care and walked off.

None,  but I've broken two.  I got my first bass boat a couple years ago, a 16 footer.  That sounds huge to a guy who never had one, but it's quite small once you start navigating the front platform with multiple rods.  One I stepped on, another I opened the rod locker and the door just swung down and broke one.  While I suppose I would lend a friend a fishing rod, anyone I fish with has rods of their own and it never comes up.

Back in the seventies, graphite rods were just hitting the market.  They were very expensive.  I bought a Fenwick graphite casting rod for around $350.  Gas was less than 50 cents a gallon, so you figure that rod was a big investment.  The first weekend I took it out, my fishing buddy stepped on it breaking it about 6 inches above the handle.  When it happened, we just stood there looking at each other for a full minute.  Early graphite rods would explode without warning.  They came with an unconditional warranty, so I took it back and they gave me a new rod.  The warranty didn't say anything about wayward feet.  ?

My truck is like a “friend”.  My friend’s power windows broke my last rod.

Interesting. A few weeks ago I hit the local pond from the bank with my new St. Croix Bass X and two other rods. The spot I fish is right off a walking trail and about 30 minutes in here comes totally oblivious soccer mom and her 9-10 year old son. I kept hearing a pinging noise and saw he was carrying an aluminum baseball bat. At that time I was fishing a TR from a baitcaster and had another one and a finesse rig (the St. Croix) leaning on a tree about 3’ from me. Sure as heck the kid walks through the trees right up to me as TOSM just keeps on truckin’.

“Whacha doin’? Catch anything? Can I see? Can I hold one of these rods?” That was the last question and as I turned to say “No!” I heard ping! The little moppet pinged my new rod with his bat! Luckily it did no damage but I was pretty hot. Of course, by the time TOSM was almost out of visual range she starts bellowing like a colicky cow for him to catch up.

Actually, I’m still ticked!!!

I had a friend step on a rod while netting a fish for me.  That taught me to net mine own fish which I do when I am fishing solo which is 90% of my fishing.

I actually broke a coangler's rod this year.  He was snagged and he gave me the rod.  He was hung on old fishing line and as I pulled up, the snagged line sank back down and snapped off the tip.  Sucked for both of us.

If I don't sleep with you or if you don't call me dad, you don't touch my rods, so zero. My lady has broken a guide once and my son has broken a tip once. Other than that, they've never broken anything.

None by friends.  I did break one when I fell face first into a pile of rocks.  I keep several rods in Florida.  My nephew and a friend (or two) took 3 of them to use.  One never came back.  Naturally it wasn't the chitty one.  I only had low cost rods there.  Another sister-in-law offered to store my rods for me.  Now no one else uses them, and I have a couple 'better'  (not expensive) rods there now.

I have no problem with my nephew using my rods as long as he takes care of them.  Unfortunately since he has no money invested in them he wasn't all that careful.  :sad78:

My dad broke two of my rods over the years. From just being careless. They were not my best of rods but that were not $9.99 Wally Worlds either. I was ticked but what can you do. As much as I wanted to go off I didn’t, crap happens.

I fish alone or have my grandsons with me. They are pretty careful with their stuff and my stuff. They know rods are delicate.

I have specific “loaner” rods I give to visiting friends to use. These are rods in my collection that I don’t care if they break or not. Usually older rods or ones that are not in my rotation anymore.

If I was using a friends rod and broke it I would apologize profusely and then buy him a new one. If he said no, I don’t have to, one would mysteriously show up on his doorstep from Tackle Warehouse.
