Di_ver_gent Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 What reel speed would be optimal for this rod? I currently have a revo winch 5.4:1 and I’m starting to think it’s on the slow side for most lures the shines with. What gear ratio would fit this rod the best? Quote
kayaking_kev Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I personally used a 6.3.1 for my DC 705cb and a 5.4.1 for rods meant for deep divers. This is due to the most popular feedback that I received when I acquired about the same subject. It seems to work good based from my limited experience, compared to some veterans of the sport on here. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 My 705CB has a 6.3:1 on it. It's worked just fine for everything from lipless to DT-10...this year see how it works on the DT-16 and DT-20. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I have a 7.5 1 on my 705CB, I use it mainly for squarebills. Quote
SproDD79 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I use the 705 CB for Jerkbaits and mid range cranks. I think you are good with the winch for cranks, for jerkbaits I would go up to a 6 or 7 gear ratio. Quote
EzyEric Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 7.1 on mine for square bills to medium divers. I'd actually prefer a 6.x but this works fine. Quote
Di_ver_gent Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 Thanks all for the input. Might try to find 6.xx daiwa elite for the 705cb and keep the winch for a deep diving rod. what rod recommendations for bigger cranks the 705cb can’t handle. Thanks again everyone, happy fishing!! 1 Quote
Emiliano Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I've paired mine with a Tatula TW 100 in 6.3:1 and the biggest crankbaits I throw are 6XD, MB deep x300 and deep six, for me it's almost the limit with the 705CB. I'm a Dobyns fan for power fishing, so for bigger baits I should say Champion XP 805 (up to 1oz and 1/2) and the XP 806 up to 2oz Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted February 3, 2021 Super User Posted February 3, 2021 IMNSHO the gear ratio depends more on what cranks one is fishing and how one is fishing them than the rod one is using. Quote
