Gots to be strawberry preserves. Jelly is for...amateur's.

Homemade jam for the win, and not the lame freezer jam.

Pear preserves on a biscuit. Not the kind you can get in a store (although I’ve never seen pear preserves in a store). You need someone’s grandma to give it to you

salmon omelette - the paper-thin Nova salmon flakes, salsa on top

aP4110002.jpg

my buddies line up for these on every fishing trip

aP4110005.jpg

only on a fishing trip, don't take the time to cook bacon - instead, buy the Banquet fully-cooked brown-and-serve sausage links - they're remarkably good.

@TnRiver46 - my mom still cans pear preserves from my dad's orchard (and everything from his remarkable garden) - she also makes the best blackberry cobbler ever dreamed (and makes me a key lime pie every year for my August birthday).

If I really get up early and have time to make papas, it's breakfast tacos - these decorated with smoked venison backstrap, sauteed to warm it.

Aluminum foil is an essential ingredient for good breakfast tacos - they need to steam and blend all the oils.

Ah man, I love a good breakfast sandwich on Sunday's, usually sausage egg & cheese on English Muffin, but substitute a good biscuit and we're onto something. Thanks for posting, I'm making biscuits on Sunday for my breakfast sandwich.

FWIW, during the week, it's 5 hard boiled egg whites and 20 pistachios and black coffee for breakfast.

Nice job on the poachers.  Poached eggs seems like a lost art.

Thanks.  Sad because they are so easy.  For anyone wondering how, crack your eggs into a small bowl, bring a large pot of water with a half cup to cup or so of vinegar to a boil, get the whole pot swirling like a drain and add the eggs.  For this consistency they need 3 minutes.  Once the eggs are in don't let it boil to aggressively.  I use a slotted spoon to then transfer them to a wire rack for a minute to drip before plating.

I’m sure that’s easy for some people. I’d rather dig a ditch for 3-4 hours by hand.
I can’t even fry eggs without busting the yokes. It seriously frustrates me

worse than anything on this whole planet, must be some kind of pet peeve I can’t get past. So I eat boiled eggs

Dang those eggs look good. Reminds me of when I was a kid on summer break. I’d ride about 1/2-3/4 mile to my grandparents house a couple times a week for breakfast and she’d cook them just like that and I’d dip homemade toast in the yolk.

No eggs for me anymore unless they’re hard boiled, thanks to IBS. ?

Might be a local thing, but there's usually a whole section on the menu for various eggs Benedict concoctions, like Michelle, Florence, there's even a Rochester.  If anyone knows what a garbage plate is (meat on home fries and mac salad with hot sauce), they'll see eggs on muffins with bacon and sauce is just a civilized version for breakfast.

Sadly most restaurants down here have gotten away from real breakfasts. All they know is sunnyside up or over easy.

You really have to look to find, Eggs Hussarde, Eggs Sardou, Eggs St. Charles, or Croque Madame.

Must be the cold weather.  There are many restaurants here that are breakfast only.

Hard to beat a sausage, scrapple, bacon, egg and cheese on a Kaiser roll breakfast sandwich! Add some sweet peppers, too!

I love Mrs. Crispy, but eggs and fish (St. Charles)?  Ah .......... I'll pass.

There was a cook 40+ years ago in Indianapolis who served Mr. Crispy with seared Bull's Horn peppers on the side, and that was great. Haven't seen that since.  ??

A lot of the old recipes from my childhood are dying out. Frozen food, microwaves and a declining economy have all but killed them off.            jj

They said that back in 50s, then there was Julia Child showing us all how to braise.  Still watch her to this day.  Judging by all the cooking shows, good cooking is on the rise.  Recipes and techniques come and go, but eating well is always in style.  At the very least this pandemic has people making bread again.  It's really comical how many loaves are in my daily IG feed.

Slow cooking is my jam.  I love a braise.

I think COVID really put people back into the kitchen.  Me?  I cooked always. It’s how I landed my wife.

My PCP would list me as an Ex-PCP. ?
