New to all of this.  I just ordered the Jackall Gantarel JUNIOR. I’m tired of my buddies hauling in the occasional winter toad while I’m pulling dinks while I’m stuck in my finesse stubbornness.  If I even get a dink, I’m lucky on some especially brutal outings.

Okay. What I ordered is a “swim bait”.

what is a Glide-bait besides something I need ASAP.?

A glide bait is a swimbait with one hinge causing it to "glide" from side to side. A multi joint swimbait has a more linear, snaking swimming motion.

S waver 168 and 200 are great starter glide baits. Not overly expensive either.

If you have a rod that will handle 2 oz + baits, I would recommend giving the 6" Huddelston a go, choose which ever pattern that closely matches the bait fish you have in your fishery. 12 to 15 lb mono or fluro works for these.

Just looked at swimbait rods.  Oh-o.   No bueno. :)

I know what you need, if you want go cheap go for Shimano Curado 80XH around $150

if you want to go for very big swimsuit like mothers go for dobyns 908 less than $300

evantually you need both of them.

Think this through!

Your swimbait is a shallow running 1 1/2oz Bluegill imitator good for ponds and during the spawn cycles to summer.

Trout imitator like Huddleston 6 or 68 and S-Wavers 168 are all in the similar weight range. The basic method to determine what power rod is add the rods lure weight range and divide by 2 for nominal lure weight; 1 to 3 oz is 2 oz nominal. If you plan to but swimbaits weighing over 2 oz, then go up in power.

Dobyns Fury FR795SB, IROD SB Jr, Okuma GS A Heavy for example.

Reels, 300 size bait casting with line capacity 150 yards 14 lb min. Ratio 5.8:1 is ideal.

Can’t get into heavier swimbaits without the right tackle.

You fish NoCal lakes with big bass and the Delta with big stripers and bass that eat swimbaits.

Tom

PS, you are also a kayak angler.

You don't need to spend a fortune to get started. The iRod Gen III is $150, the Daiwa DX is $100. Both will get you in the game.

Megabass Magdraft Freestyle is a good affordable weedless bait that weighs 1 oz. Rig it with weighted Owner Beast 8/0 and fish it pretty much in and through anything. White Back Shad produces.

Thanks. I just put it on my wish list.  I bet the rainbow color kills them at my trout stocked lakes.  Thanks.  I’ll get the shad color as well.

do. You have a pic of one rigged up?  I’m new to this.

You instigator!

thanks for the suggestion.  I have several on the way.  Order placed!  Plus some hooks.  Great video suggestion.   I love the swim action.

I should get everything on time for a weekend adventure.
