We'll have to see how it fishes because on a specs level it's similar to the 7'4 H/F. I always thought of the 7'4 as their frog rod but I know it's versatile as people use them for all sorts of things. I actually recently bought a 7'4 h/f to use for this season. I'd like to fish for LM more and I needed a frog/punching rod. Also, thank you for your service. It was an honor to serve. H/EF? That's very interesting as well. The 7'4" has traditionally been Croix's frog/swimjig rod which i use primarily for swimjigs and swing-jigs. The 7'1" MH/EF in the Legend X series to me is a definite "must have" rod. If Croix made a H/EF with the same properties as those of the MH/EF it would be an incredible dock skipping rod. Have to see what Croix presents. Quote
Nelson Delaney Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 I have an older generation LTB 7’3” XH/F . It’s rated to 2 1/4 oz, I find it works great for pike & downsized musky jerkbaits. Never found much use for it bass fishing. Quote
Hulkster Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 As a huge fan of the Avid blank, I'm pleased with the fact that these are built on essentially an upgraded/improved Avid blank. However, i wish they were all cork instead of EVA foam on the foregrip. Looking forward to some longer models too with the full release. We need some 7'6 models, something the original Avid line is deeply missing (at least in casting models) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 17, 2021 Super User Posted February 17, 2021 The new St. Croix rods will offer a wide array of options. Stay tuned, we are less than a month away and will be on top of the news. Might even have a sneak peak shortly. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 17, 2021 Super User Posted February 17, 2021 Seems like this will be the update to an already great, but aging Avid line. The Avid X series didn't really turn my screws, but these look like something I'd add to my collection. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 18, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 18, 2021 Excited to see these in person. The Avids were nice, but with all the technique specific style rods anymore, this was long overdue. Makes me glad I've held off on adding any new rods to the lineup like I've been thinking about doing. Quote

The M Muse fishes just like a M Avid, the Avids action is a hair faster and may have slightly more power or at least feels that way, but fishes the same baits as the Muse similarly. I feel that the Muse balances better and the slightly slower action gives me more casting distance. IKR, its like McDonalds saying, "Try our new chicken McNuggets, now made with 100% chicken." This company has been around for ages and is now just realizing their rods being tip heavy??? They’re not the only ones either. But props for them taking initiative to make a better product competitively priced.... Even tho I’m bias to Dobyns, I’ll still give credit where due, it just amazes me only a handful of manufacturers make a balanced rod especially in 2021! I mean a 8ft cranking or flipping stick is one thing but to have 6’6”-7’3” rods even some 7’6s completely unbalanced just boggles my mind this day and age. 14 hours ago, roadwarrior said: The new St. Croix rods will offer a wide array of options. Hulkster Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 whoa i see that rod above has no EVA foam!! i love full cork! does this mean that future models may be full cork? Quote

It sounds like you'd like the OG Avids, then. The Victory are a split cork grip with EVA over the the threads. The Avid full cork: 1 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 18, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 18, 2021 The lineup will have split-grip cork handles "customized per model", plus full-grip combination on select models. From what I know, "combination" means a cork/EVA combination. In other words, no full-cork handles. 1 Quote

Super User jimmyjoe Posted February 19, 2021 Super User Posted February 19, 2021 Oh, well. Another manufacturer that puts a reel seat on backwards. And I had such high hopes ........... ☹️ ☹️ ☹️ jj Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2021 Super User Posted February 19, 2021 I like the up locking seats. The threads just get in the way and don't feel great on my hands. 3 1 Quote
Finessegenics Posted February 19, 2021 Author Posted February 19, 2021 I agree. I much prefer this reel seat compared to the one on the mojo bass. Also makes the rod look a lot more aesthetically pleasing. I see what looks like a dropshot weight keeper there which is a really nice built in feature. Hopefully it’s on all the spinning rods. Quote
