Keefu13 Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Looking to get a new baitcaster for heavy cover fishing with a frog or punching a jig. What reel would you recommend? Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted January 31, 2021 Super User Posted January 31, 2021 Welcome back! ?? Did the previous conversation not give the best results? Are you still thinking of using this for snakeheads? If so, then I reiterate my choice of the Shimano TranX 300a. I'm sure that there are many people here that will offer the Daiwa Tatula 200, though. Give us a better idea, specifically, of what you need and what you don't want. I'm sure we can help you. jj 1 Quote
CFDoc Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Lews pro TI from legacy American fishing. Switch legacy and American. $250 with shipping. Best deal on the market today imo. amazing reel. 1 Quote

There are so many different reels by Shimano hard to choose haha. Curado, menatium, scorpion etc. 9 minutes ago, CFDoc said: Lews pro TI from legacy American fishing. The pro TI is a much better all around reel for $250. The custom lite is a 9 gram spool. Excels very much as a finesse reel. The Pro TI gears are much smoother, and the overall frame is built like a tank. Much better suited for wide array type fishing. 2 Quote

Yes I have a whole bunch of Shimano metaniums. The bantam and metanium are fine reels but generally not available at $250. The bantam is well suited for heavy applications. The Lews pro TI is suited for heavy applications as well and available for $250. 1 Quote
Super User Solution jbsoonerfan Posted January 31, 2021 Super User Solution Posted January 31, 2021 If you are talking about with a fish, I don't notice. I guess one would be able to tell the difference throwing an A rig on a PG vs an XG, but I don't do that. I think you are over thinking it. Just buy any reel and go fish. You would be hard pressed to go wrong at $250. 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 31, 2021 Super User Posted January 31, 2021 Bantam again.... 6.X:1. Smooth and built like a tank but small and compact. Only complaint is taking the side plate off to adjust the brakes. 1 Quote

waymont Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 If you're ok with ordering from Japan, you can get a Bantam MGL for $250. One of the best reels out there. 1 Quote
