Super User S Hovanec Posted February 3, 2021 Super User Posted February 3, 2021 I think I'm the opposite of most. When I ordered my Lund, I wanted nothing installed. I am very particular about how I want my stuff rigged. When I picked my boat up, It was boat, motor and trailer. There wasn't even a battery in it. I had a pallet of accessories waiting in my garage when I got it home. Quote
Cyclones Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 Update: Dealer told me they rig it. I asked about just purchasing the cheaper boat and was told a few hours later that they made a mistake on my boat price, that it should be roughly the same as the in stock model, so I signed a new purchase agreement with the new lower price. 6 Quote

A good dealer will professionally rig your new boat with everything you need and be trouble free for years. Tom Yep, I remember when I was a little kid I went with my Dad and he was buying a new truck. He looked over the inventory and a sales guy came up to help and he asked to meet the service dept. He told the service guy that the sales guy might convince him to buy the first truck there but it was up to him to sell him the second. 21 hours ago, Cyclones said: Update: Dealer told me they rig it. You did good, but I'm the most impatient man in the world. LOL! I rarely order online I like to hold, see it etc. and I hate waiting on shipping. Unless the one in stock was just some fugly color I probably would've grabbed it. LOL! Quote

It’s a blizzard here in Iowa today. I’m in no hurry to get it home and have to figure out storage. I have a 3 car garage, but it’s about 1/2 occupied by my woodworking tools. Wife’s car takes up the rest. Gonna need to do some serious rearranging before I bring it home. Just realized yesterday that my development has covenants that restrict boats or rv’s from parking on the street or in your driveway for more than 7 cumulative days in a year. Luckily that covenant sunsets in 4 years as Iowa has a law setting covenant limits to 21 years. Until then I have to cram her in the garage! Quote

I have a 5 car garage, basement level, two car on wife's side and 3 car on mine. My wife needs EVERY inch of hers to park, LOL! My side is a 3 car with an extra 15'. On my side I have all my lawn equipment and tools, boat and trailer, kayak and trailer, Harley, ATV, archery section with press and draw board, reloading station, home gym and other assorted junk. I have to park my truck in the driveway and they just charge me a monthly fine. Time to get my oldest son a vehicle and when we do I guess that fine will double. Quote
Cyclones Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 Charge guy money to park in your own driveway....INSANE! I’m not totally against covenants—keeps your neighbors from painting their house orange and having a junkyard on their property....but things like parking a normal vehicle in the driveway cost you money just seems crazy. I wasn’t allowed to build a shed on my property, so I built a “kids playhouse” instead! I’m probably gonna risk parking it in my driveway during fishing season...but all’s it takes is one Karen to throw a fit... Quote

I’m probably gonna risk parking it in my driveway during fishing season...but all’s it takes is one Karen to throw a fit... I was having this discussion with my brother Sunday. Our Dad is 74 VERY poor health and he had a wife of 30 years. THey were sending him home 1/24 saying "nothing we can do" but his wife was in quarantine until 1/26. So he was gonna come home with me two days and go home to his wife. Thursday before he was released I was talking to his wife on the phone making arrangements, etc and the phone went silent. She dropped dead of a blood clot while on the phone. So I wound up planning and paying for a funeral and she's not my Mom and I have a new roommate. Dad wants to bring his Yukon to my house but it would have to be in the driveway. My brother thought it was absurd but I told him I knew the deal when I bought the lot and built on it so I can't really gripe about it. Whatcha gonna do though, he's my Dad and there's NO WAY I'd let them stick him in a home by himself to just die alone. Luckily I have a phenominal wife and the kids are stoked to have PaPa here so not too bad. Quote

Go back and talk to the install tech just once and you will see why. I like my stuff installed right and that the dealer won't do. Don't say get a better dealer either as they all suffer from the same. I bought a used boat. Going to completely unrig and re-rig it as well. Don't trust the previous install. Do the same on everything I own. Get a new 4 wheeler or snowmobile and I rip through it mechanically to make sure nothing will go wrong when I use it. This also has the major added benefit that when (not if) something happens on the water you are completely prepared to resolve it. 2 Quote

That does seem quite ridiculous. In my city, the code says you cannot park on your yard...vehicle, trailer, etc. It has to be a paved surface. My neighbor parks his truck and trailer on his front lawn fairly regularly and its a complete eyesore. The city has cited him over and over and over and the fine has exponentially gone up. He really should move out into the country so he can park crap in his yard. Parking a boat/trailer or other kind of trailer in open sight always seemed like a bad idea to me anyways. Someone could literally back up to it and steal it. Quote

Long as it's not out front, we can use our yards however we want. I let the guy across the street park his utility trailer and boat trailer (during the summer, he stores it during the winter) in my backyard. In exchange, he mows my lawn for me/snowblows me out. I'm not using the space and his yard doesn't have the space...barter exchange. 2 Quote

If its out of sight, its out of mind. Its an eye sore in the front. In the back, not so much. Frankly I would rather have a nice yard with green grass than one that is ripped up from truck tires and trailers all the time. Regardless, I kind of went off topic. The thread is supposed to be about who is rigging the boat not about parking rules. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 4, 2021 Super User Posted February 4, 2021 I'm always surprised at people that are surprised by the rules they agreed to when they bought a house that has some HOA or zoning rules attached. Complaining about it is sort like complaining about your wife. ? 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 15, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 15, 2021 I saw an ott Defoe video where he said he rigs his so he knows how to fix anything out on the water. I rig my own because I’ve never been to a boat dealer and boy does it show! Not in a good way......... hahah. in all seriousness drilling holes in the boat seems crazy the first time but as long as you’ve got good screws and some 3M 5200, it won’t leak a drop. I’m a HACK and I’ve drilled at least 75-100 holes in boats from replacing transoms and mounting transducers and none of them have ever leaked. Quote
