In this scenario, who is installing the extras, would it be the dealer or would it be done at Lund?  I’m talking trolling motor, fish finder, sport top.

The dealer already had the boat I wanted on order.  We made a few changes to that order, but no time difference.  Put a down payment on the order, starts being built next month.

BUT.....the dealer has the same model with same engine in the showroom for about $3600 less, just a different color.  It wasn’t $3600 less when I put my down payment in.  So.....would it be crappy of me to ask to switch to that lower priced same model?  He already had the boat on order, but I did make a few changes.  And would the dealer be the one putting the tm and fish finder on anyway?

My experience is that the dealer does it.  I had some items added on to a boat I bought in 2015 and the dealer installed all of them.  Electronics, bow mount, talon, etc.

In my case, I wanted the dealer to install as much of it as they could.

That way they would be familiar with (and perhaps more responsible for) what happens further down the road. Also, they let me sit in and watch much of the install.

I learned a ton.

That's good advice.  The dealer I've been talking to has shown me examples of their installs and will arrange a walk through with the owner, if I want to see it first hand.

Appreciate the replies.....as to the 2nd part of the question.  Is it tacky or unreasonable or unfair of me to ask to buy the discounted model on the showroom floor instead?  I committed to the other one and had them change the order a bit....

To be clear, if this was a car dealer I’d have no problem switching orders....but I’m a boat rookie and will need to lean on my dealer in the first few years...

No! It’s your money and doesn’t affect the dealer to cancel the order.

Shouldn’t be a problem. $3600 is a good chunk of $. If you would be happy with the other boat tell the dealer you changed your mind. And as AJ stated there’s a lot to say for dealer install items.

I’m on the other end. I like to install my own stuff. One, I’m good at it and Two, I want to know what’s what if something goes wrong on a trip making it way more likely I can remedy myself.

A man has to know his limitations.  This would meet mine.

That's fine for some things, like graph or a trolling motor on a smaller, uncomplicated boat.  You aren't going to do as nice a job as a professional would integrating Vessel View with network linked graphs and trolling motor along with the stereo, VHF radio on my 25' bay boat.  I rigged the linked units in my Bullet, and it took me a day and a half, and I can tell you for sure where it could go wrong.  It took a day and a half to do, and longer to remove when I sold it.

End of the day it’s just running wires and drilling holes. You take your time it shows, if not it also shows.

drilling holes

This is the part that really bothers me.  I hate drilling holes into items because once its there, its there.  And holes in a boat never seemed like a great idea.  Its like getting a haircut.  You can't put more back on.

The dealer will be the one installing all the stuff. Even stuff thats ordered to the best of my knowledge is put on by the dealer. If I could save some money id absolutely take the one they have as long as it would satisfy me. I also am in the diy crowd.  I dont trust anyone so when I bought my new rig I ordered all my electronics myself.  I do agree tho that it might get over my head if it was several things to link and install.  All I've ever really fooled with is trolling motors and graphs

What separates a good dealer from also ran is their skilled experienced service staff. A good dealer will professionally rig your new boat with everything you need and be trouble free for years.

I used to work at a Lund dealership.  The boats came in bare bones.  We had to rig most everything.  Even the trailer was a separate order coming from a different vendor.  Maybe Brunswick has changed that.

It’s the exact same model, year, motor, just a different color.  Not sure why they are now offering it $3600 cheaper, but I feel like a sucker paying more now.

You can drill all the holes you want in a Lund and it will still get you across the lake

The dealer has already paid for the boats on the showroom floor. I'm sure he'd rather sell you that one rather than an ordered boat.

Lol I don’t know what is more disturbing in that video: the fact that neither one of those guys has a PFD on or the bayou type music being played.

I could be wrong but when the dealer orders the boat he's going to order it bare bones so he can get the mark up on the equipment he installs. Why give the factory the profit if the dealer can get it. Also, if it's ordered bare bones it's and easier sale. Let's say you're a Humminbird guy and the boat came rigged with Lowrance. That might be a deal breaker. Let's say you're a noobie to boats. The $3000 graph might be a deal breaker where a $300 graph would do.

I hope you bought them lunch, etc., at least once or twice.  I worked in the car audio industry before the FD and that was a CARDINAL SIN.

Your dealer must be A+! Good on them!

I'd bet you haven't had a good pizza since you migrated from the east coast

Recently ordered a new boat, everything was installed at the factory prior to delivery. Boat arrived at the dealership at 3 one afternoon and I picked it up before noon the next day. Only thing my dealer did was position the hot foot to fit me and install batteries then wash the boat.
