GoneFishingLTN Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 This has been posted many times. I’ve used the search bar but this is more specific towards my situation I have a 8foot mh Daiwa elite cranking rod rated for 2oz and heard it was a little weak for the 10xd. I also have a lot of heavy action rods with fast actions that are not glass. Lastly I have a dobyns 795sb which is a 7’9’’mh I believe just curious on what you would recommend from what I own to toss a 10xd heavy rods I own are elite punching rod. Elite long cast rod and Fitzgerald flipping sticks Quote

DomQ Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I've got a sweet mh mod fast action lews custom rod rated for 1/2-3oz I think and its aqesome for deep cranks and big top water! Quote
Chris Carey Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I’d try the daiwa. The slower action being the reason. I run a dobyns 806, it’s supposed to be their 10xd rod. I don’t have a lot of experience with it just yet but it is a lot of rod. 1 Quote
GoneFishingLTN Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 What are the odds I’ll break that Daiwa since the 10xd is 1.92oz and the rod is rated for 2oz? Quote

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." Probably won't but it's a good rule of thumb to stick to the half way mark of the rod, with a little more or a little less being decent. Say a rod rated to an ounce. It performs best at 1/2oz. At 1/4oz it won't cast the best, and at 3/4oz it will feel overloaded. Maxed out is never really good or ideal. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 30, 2021 Super User Posted January 30, 2021 Just in case, I have no experience with this rod but I think it fits what you need...... Shimano Expride 7'11'' X-Heavy Mod-Fast It is more of a swimbait rod but to chuck a crankbait that big, it might as well be a swimbait. It is rated up to 3oz so your 2oz bait should hit the sweet spot. Quote

SproDD79 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I have been using the Okuma Guide Select Crankbait rod 7,10MH Graphite for throwing 10 xds and find it really handles 10 xds well.I got the rod during the TW black Friday sale for around $100. If you plan on getting a dedicated rod for the 10 xd take a look at the Okuma Crankbait rod. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Okuma_Guide_Select_Crankbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-OGSCB.html?from=gshop&gclid=CjwKCAiApNSABhAlEiwANuR9YBOldX9C2pdE7s4zUGkcG1dfhOI6cqRZFO_ZnfBQvr5nFRdi1K_VKBoCF4EQAvD_BwE Quote
Emiliano Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I heard a lot of good reviews about Dobyns Champion 806, a deep cranking must to have rod. Since you @GoneFishingLTN own the Dobyns 795SB give it a try. I use that rod for oversized treble hooks baits such as hard swimbait, big deep crankbait (Big M-7.5, 8&10XD...) and big top water lures and it can handle them pretty well. It's not a perfect rod for crankbait but since I use these large baits not so often I think it is a good compromise Quote

Much stiffer than the 806. Quote
