I've always wanted to throw big swimbaits but didn't really know if it was worth it or where to start. Many people have mentioned some good beginner baits, especially the S-Waver 168 in Lite Trout and Warden Hitch colors but I would also suggest the Baitsanity Antidote, it's an 8" glide bait weighs around 2.7oz. and best of all it's priced very well for that size of a bait at $25. I bought a couple at the end of last season so didn't get to test them out but I'm looking forward to it this season. Matt and Tim from Tactical Bassin' like them! If you know you're never going to throw a bait over 3.5oz. I would get a Dobyns Fury 795SB, call Dobyns directly and they most likely have some refurbished available to buy...mine was a demo returned from a store that was never used and still had the tags on and I got it for $100 shipped. Revival Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I’m just getting into the game and exclusively fish from the bank at our ponds and lake. Not trying to get too crazy but have seen friends have success so wanted to try it out. My friend caught a 2lb smallie and had another friend lose a 6lb+ both on a 168. I was sold. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted February 19, 2021 Super User Posted February 19, 2021 You should give Gantarel Jr. a try. It is good for cruising along shallow. It you want slow sink action just add weight strips to the nose and become good bass bed fishing. It 1.5oz so you can fish on regular H or XH rod. I use Phenix ultra MBX XH with either Cardiff 200 or Curado 200iPG. 2 Quote

Anything bigger gets no play for me. I'm more of a finesse fisherman overall but I fish a lot of tournaments so most of my fishing spring thru late summer is geared around that. One local lake is small and is a trophy lake. Ive had days ive threw the s waver all day at this lake. Dont get a ton of bites but usually better quality Cedar Creek? If so I'm a little scared to throw my Buccas or other semi expensive swimbaits in that lake. haha Quote
928JLH Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 +1 on the gantarel jr. Definitely the gateway swimbait that is relatively inexpensive. Swimbaiting is highly addictive. Finally broke down and bought a Lexa 300 and DXSB rod. Caught 2 prespawn smallies over 4lbs the last week and my first double digit striped bass on a light trout color s waver 200. It's gets the blood pumping to see a follower commit. Quote
