Trying to gather info on wake bait colors (even though I know a lot of it is weather / location / time of year dependent). Being in the middle zone between topwater and squarebill, I'm curious what color selection most lean towards. Does it make more sense to go with the bone/black like topwater, or get chart, bluegill, sexy shad, shad patterns similar to squarebills. I'm probably overthinking it, but we currently have 6 inches of snow on the ground and I need some bass fishing in my life. Thanks

I consider a wake bait a top water because the fish will almost always be looking up at it. You can get crazy with color like anything else but for me I've simplified my top water game and think all i really need is white and black.

I love fishing big wake baits, like the 9 inch ms slammer, my most productive colors for the 9 inch slammer, are solid colors. Black, white, chartreuse, purple, red.  I do fish other colors of the slammers as well.     A black buzz jet, white G2 shell cracker. The Matt lures, meathead and strong shad  I own are shad colors, but they get crushed.

I to with mostly chartreuse which is bright, and another that is a darker bluegill color.

That's all I've ever needed.

Same as any other bait.

Fish not only see up but up at an angle, so they'll see the side of a bait ... and ... not give one hoot to what it looks like but will react to what it's doing. ?

A dark bottom and a light bottom are all I need.  I do prefer the top of the lure to be as bright as possible, it makes it a lot easier to steer it around cover.

Baby bass or a blue gill pattern for wake baits. Top waters, 99% trout pattern.

And the Rat.
