I'd rather fish in the wind, or do most anything, than listen to Whoopie.

When the trailer comes off the hitch ball it sort of ruins a fishing trip.  Don't ask how I know.

Not a lot actually. Mechanical problems would be at or near the top. In the end though I feel very fortunate to be doing something that I love to do.

In my intemperate youth I used to let every little thing irritate me but as I'm nearing 60 I simply don't sweat many things with regards to fishing. On the off chance something gets under my skin I put my rod down, go sit in the driver's seat, and look around at the beauty that's before me.

The person you bring along that has his cell phone blowing up non-stop because his wife wants to know every 5 minutes when he is coming home, or he decides that 30 minutes on the lake is too long and needs to go home right now......

Yeah, I am sure most of you know THAT guy.... ?

Yes. This is why I usually fish alone. Well one reason.

roll the windows up and turn on the heater, have some fun.

My favorite trick is to lock the windows and then act like I smell something wrong with the car so that my passengers start sniffing.

The worst one I've had in the past few years.

I got up at 4:30 one morning to go fishing. Drove 30 minutes across Richmond with my boat to meet 3 friends. They were there as planned with a boat. Drove an hour to our favorite private lake. Drove down the mile long rough gravel farm path to find the lake had been drawn down 3 feet and the bank was slick clay and wet weeds. Not good. Hmm, is there enough water? How deep is the wet clay under the foot of wet weeds? The side of the hill is bad enough on a good day and my 4Runner has new Michelins too.

My buddy put his 1648 in first, with a lot of jerking back and forth and such. The last hard stop produced a very loud BANG. Hmm, was that a brake line? Yes and no. It was total brake failure, except for the parking brake and that was iffy. Well, he tried to put it in. It didn't actually come off the trailer.  :)

So we did a little bank fishing, unhooked his trailer, nursed his Expedition up the mile long road to the county gravel road and waited an hour for the tow truck. Oh, I forgot the part where I got talked into driving 20 minutes to the nearest country store, with my boat, and buying two bottles of brake fluid that promptly ran out on the ground. Duh. What did he think was going to happen. I've known him 40+ years, so there was a lot of trash talk going on.

When you just get to the lake, and sees a ton of fish feeding on minnows and just when you are getting ready to cast and your mom calls you and says “GET HOME NOW YOU DIDN’T DO THE DISHES!!!!!
Then you come back an hour later and can’t find the fish.

Getting up early enough to make safelight at the lake (103 miles from home) and waiting for my fishing buddy to show up.  After waiting about an half an hour getting a phone call he over slept and will be here in 45 minutes.

Then we get to the lake and the ramp is crowded and he needs a potty stop.

This has happened a couple of times.  Once we get on the water and start fishing all is forgiven, we enjoy fishing together, we know when to talk and when to be quiet.

High wind. Though I've gotten better at dealing with it I'd rather not have to.

Whats worse than high wind.....is when the weathermen predict no wind, yet you get out there and its blowing 20.  Its one thing to go out expecting it to be windy, you can mentally prepare, but it really annoys me when I go out expecting little to no wind, and its blowing like a hurricane. haha.

Yeah, it knocks the wind out of you like a punch in the gut, but one difference is that 9 times out of 10, your tail is also tucked between your legs. Yes, dear, lol.

I guess I've only ever let one fishing trip be ruined, so to speak.

Last summer I was fishing before work and, on my very first cast, the squarebill I was throwing hit the tip of my favorite rod (which, coincidentally, was also the most expensive piece of fishing gear I'd ever bought to that point) laying behind where I was sitting on the dock. Snapped it right off below the second guide*.

I was gutted -- didn't even clear the birdsnest on my crankbait rod. Just reeled it in, picked up my stuff, and left to go to the office.

* I fixed it not long after, but I never had any confidence in the rod after that. It snapped again trying to get unsnagged a few weeks later and is now leaning in the "fishing junk" corner of my office at home.

I forgot to include in my previous post that one of the worst things for me is forgetting my fishing license. It usually happens when I switch cars with the Mrs. also, some lakes in my area require a permit to park which is kept in my car. So forgetting that doesn’t suck as bad but it means I have to change the place i fish. ?

Another divot in the gel coat because the designers of some boat docks at the ramp have never owned a boat. And ramps with no protection. Nothing like coming back in after a day out and seeing 2 footers rolling over the dock and ramp. With me being a solo boater most of the time.

My 2020 vacation at Lake of the Ozarks was not ruined but hampered  because my outboard would not run fast enough to get on plain .. Oh well . I learned  the Little Niangua a lot that week and caught some bass .

I often let myself ruin trips.  Whether it's just a bad start to the day, or problems that arise during the trip.

Luckily, my wife's good at reeling me back in and reminding me to enjoy the good bits.

Greetings!  Totally new but I couldn’t resist this one.

My leash aka cell phone.  Doesn’t matter who it is. “Catch anything?”

”Get a pic?” “Did you send that email?” Etc...

Having to go to the ER and get a hook removed can ruin a day pretty quick for me.

Repeat these words. "I'll call you back I got a bite!"

My ol' lady rarely bothers me when I'm fishing and normally it's "What time are you going to be home?"

I leave mine on silent and check it every time I turn big motor on.  Only reason I dont leave it in the truck is for emergencies.

Late to the party here but getting a wicked backlash on the first or second cast which results in me getting it out for 15 minutes ruins any trip for me even if I catch a bunch of fish big or small.

I hate backlashes.
