I found this reel on the bank where I fish. I have a habit of really braving and going far far beyond where most people fish along the bank. This was FAR FAR from the car parking so whoever abandoned it must have been mad if it was his only reel. I threw it in my tackle bag after checking it and seeing the thing was all wobbly when reeling.  Turned out the nut holds the spinning part was loose. I took the reel apart every piece and cleaned it and greased and oiled it also put loctite on that nut so it hopefully wont spin out anymore. My problem is I dont have any spin rods all mine are the ones where the reel goes on top of the rod.

I put 6 pounds mono on it and want to use it for more delicate fishing. What is a good rod for this purpose that is also pretty cheap like 30-50 bucks?

I personally would opt for a Berkley Lightning for about $35-$40.  However, a Berkley Cherrywood HD runs about $22-$25, but Scheels has a 6'6" MF on sale for $14.99

Otherwise you can check places like Academy Sports and Bass Pro Shops (or Cabela's) for store brand rods.  Some as low as $13 at Academy Sports.

Dont throw good money after bad. I was given one like that that I tried to use and it was nothing but issues. If your budget is $50 then save $10 more and get a Trion combo or another newer combo from a reputable company.

I will keep that in mind. It looks very nice and I love my pflueger closed face President combo.

This reel I found is working very good I tested it on my old Zebco 33 rod but obviously its not a great rod for this real. Its nice and smooth and if I can pick up a decent rod for 20-50 it would be splendid to use if it works for a while. I never used this type of reel but my grandfather always used these ones.

So 6'6" medium fast is the type? The only places around here that sells rods is dicks and walmarts so I will check them out. Thanks

'Medium' is the rod's power designation.  'Fast is the rod's action.  I have no idea what power rod you want.  I wouldn't go heavier than Medium with 6# line.  What type and weight lures do you plan on using with it?  A 'Medium Light' (ML) would work well with 6# line.  Just remember there are no standards for power or action.

Search and you can find pictures depicting rod action so you will have a better understanding about 'Fast', Extra Fast', 'Moderate', 'Medium Fast', etc.  Tackletour reviews rods.  One of the things they do is check the rod's deflection against a model that they use as a baseline for that rod power.  Problem is they don't review rods in the price range you are looking at.

1) Grab you a cheap ($15-$20) medium power spinning rod at Walmart.

2) Get some Z-man TRD (standard, small size) and 1/15oz Z-man ned jig heads.

3) Catch fish!

X 2 Haven’t used either but have held and contemplated the lightning rod.

Will definitely agree. Once you try you’ll definitely be back for advice on what your next upgrade purchase should be. Good luck and looking forward to hearing your update on how it worked out.

That would be a spinning reel not a casting reel.
