A-Jay Lol - I’ve got no dog in this fight as I rarely throw them, and when I do, it’s an old original Phoenix which was kind of “The Jackhammer” (improved Chatterbait) before the Jackhammer was introduced. Just sharing another opinion on the subject I found interesting. Have I ever mentioned that Randy is a backreeler ????? ? ? 1 1 Quote

Fishing has saved me more than it has cost me. My local DSG now has a whole display of various types of chatterbaits in fire craw. You just pick the price point you're willing to fork out for and jump in at that level. They know exactly what they are doing, and they are doing it well! Different baits - but I see Strike King is also selling packages with 5 different SK hardbaits in red craw. Three years from now if there are any left over some of these (except not the jackhammers) will be in clearance bins (they will still catch fish though!). 3 Quote

Hawkeye21 Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 If you're spending anything more than $15 on a Jack Hammer then you're not shopping around very well. There are sites that sell them cheaper almost everyday and some places you can get them cheaper when they are just on sale. Another way to get them cheaper is on Facebook marketplace. Even if you have a gift card, make better use of it buying other tackle that's a good price. Quote
mikey z Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 @Hewhospeaksmuchbull I've had an elite for coming up on a year as well as 3 or 4 originals and the Jackhammer is the only one that I've lost, I'm gonna have to tell that monkey to back off if it takes my Stealthblade too! I'll stick with the elite if I lose this one lol Quote

I do still use them and they work at times. They have a different vibration and vary a lot in how they ride in the water column. Some will ride very high and some will track lower. Kind of a crap shoot. Hooks are kind of cheap too, but I have caught a ton of fish on them. I really like the project z. They have a faster more subtle thump to them. I just try different chatters until the fish tell me they like that vibration that day. Usually my partner and I will tie on different ones to eliminate them faster. 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I have three and haven't paid out of pocket for any haha. Gift cards, christmas stocking stuffer was a fire craw jackhammer, store credit. Got a Bhite Delight, black and blue and of course fire craw. Well worth it to me. They work and can be slow rolled on the bottom and thump away. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 Much like @Fishin Dad I really like the Project Z! Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 I have stuck with my trusty Project Z and original chatterbaits so far, but eventually I am going to give in and buy some jackhammers. I consistently hear they straight up work. From what I've heard fairly consistently that they are on par with a Project Z in stained or dirty water, but they work better in clear water, which is the majority of the water that I fish. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 My knot (or line) failed and I flung my jackhammer into the horizon and beyond. For a brief instant I thought, “d**n! That is a far cast!” i had just caught my first chatter bait bass, and the very next cast - bye-bye. I’d rather snag it on something. Haha 2 Quote

Haha That happened to me and my first Dark Sleeper. Caught a bass, next cast wind busted and backlashed. Picked it out and said it will be fine, casted that dark sleeper to infinity and beyond! tander Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I believe the Jackhammer is the best out there (never paid more than $13 for one) however, the Picasso Shock Blade Pro is really close to it for $10 regular price. 1 Quote

And seeing how dang expensive they are, I could not justify buying one. It has not arrived yet and I am currently recovering from knee surgery, so I will not be able to use it for awhile. So here is where I need my head examined, I saw a post on Xzones Instagram page of a picture of the Jackhammer in Fire Craw with a Xzone trailer in like color and I had to have it! I fought with myself for a couple of days on the merits of buying a 18.00 bait when I can't even go out and fish it, and when I am able to go out, those days are few and far between. I succumbed to my weakness and went ahead and bought it along with the trailer to match! Please tell me these things are the greatest thing since sliced bread and I will be a fish catching machine with them! ? In all seriousness, for those of you who have used one, what has been your impression? Seriously........AN $18 BAIT! What in the world was I Thinking!!!? Just wait until you need to throw it on a $800 rod and reel combo. Then you will have really lost your mind. 1 Quote
