Organizing terminal tackls

Wondering most effective way to store my terminal tackle.  I have trouble remembering where I put everything sometimes....tube jigs, swim bait heads, etc.  What I’m trying this year is putting my tube jigs with my tubes, swim bait hooks and jig heads with my swim baits and then storing regular hooks, sinkers, etc in a small box. 
How does anyone else do it?  For those that use a terminal box, has that been very effective, can you get everything in it?

Any good input appreciated.

All my jigs are in the same 3700, my terminal is in a Plano Edge 3700 terminal box. 

My plastics are split between two 3700 boxes.....

The Plano Edge Terminal Box has probably been my best storage purchase ever.

 The Edge Terminal Box is great, but it's expensive. This isn't. 

 

 

 

   This is also a 1-piece construction. No small bits of this or that get under the separators.       jj

As of right now I keep a small assortment of belly weighted hooks, underspins, swimbait jig heads, swinging football, shaky head and whatever else in a Gamakatsu slit foam box. I actually like this since I'm able to place everything in order (hook type/weight/size), it all stays in it's place and is easy to access. At the end of the day I look in the box and it's easy to see if anything needs to be replaced.

 

I don't use spinning a ton so I also have my spinning box which is a double sided 3600 Plano Worm Stowaway. One side is drop shot baits, weights and hooks for the day. The other side is ned baits and hooks. I normally have some spare wacky hooks somewhere in there..

 

My regular plastics and trailers are in a KVD worm bag.

 

All of my various worm hooks, weights, clips, bobber stops, spare trebles, spare split rings ect. are in a standard EDGE box and not as organized as I'd like. I like the standard Edge 3600 & 3700 and I love the jig box, but not sure if either of the terminal box would be worth it to me yet. Theres also the $15 terminal box from Academy I've been tempted to try.

 

I fish from a kayak or on the bank. That has an impact on how I pack and sort things so I'm not sure if any of this helps.

I just picked this up from Academy Sports during their Black Friday sale. I think this is going to help keep things more organized. It seems pretty stout too.

The great thing about terminal tackle is that it gives you something to organize and re-think during the winter.   Organize all you want.   Any system you think of will work - kinda - for a while.   There terminal tackle specific boxes will work - kinda - for a while.  By April, if you fish regularly, your terminal tackle system will be in more or less disarray.  That's life & fishing for me.

The tackle specific box in the post directly above me - that does have possibilities.  Maybe not so much for day to day fishing, but for tournament day as a co-angler - when you need a modest amount of specific stuff - that is something to think about.  Nightmare scenario would be - you're sitting in the co- angler seat digging through your box for something - angler is fishing - not paying attention to you - random wake catches the rear quarter of the boat and all of a sudden you've spilled ALL of your terminal tackle and you didn't spill it in your boat.  Did you remember to bring a magnet to get all those hooks out of the carpet?  Oh darn, I've just dropped a hundred bucks or more of tungsten, now scattered all around the deck.  I wouldn't trust those foam rubber slots to hold if something stupid or unexpected happens.   Like the concept though.

I got a bunch of poptop pill bottles off Amazon to keep everything sorted last year. Worked great. For bait specific stuff, I am expanding my collection of those Plano trays with slots for tackle and soft plastics. Having a tube box with my go to baits and typical terminal is nice to have in a single tray. Before, I had to open three trays to get all my components so it wasn't time efficient.

I put a little here a little there. It's exciting like hunting Easter eggs for grown folks. I surprise myself ever now and then, like opening my Ned box and find a 12/0 Owner Beast hook.

Hooks all in the bags they came in.  Everytime I've ever unloaded them in a box even if I am uber careful with water some rust.  The organization trick for me is all used stuff goes into another box to be dried, sorted and filed later.  The hook bags are in 3700's with weights and other terminal pieces together.  Jigs in their own box as it is easy to end up with a few boxes alone of them.

I agree the Academy Terminal Tackle box is amazing. I have 3 and can't imagine anything better

Been using a Falcon FTO terminal box to organize my hooks for almost 20 years now.  Wish they still made them.

Weights/jigheads get a Plano thin 3700 (3701).

I use a normal EDGE 3700 box for my terminal. Got a Bass Mafia coffin from a buddy, shaved down the sides and cut the bottom to fit. Works great. Only have the top pad in there because it bounces around and can be loud in my backpack

I fish out of Kayak and use the top for terminal and add a few zerust tabs then the bottom for baits and it fits nicely under my seat. 

I would take photo but phone little wonky at the moment but its held up last couple years I was concerned about the top with those plastic tabs but it has worked wonders.

I always put all my hooks and sinkers in the same tackle box. That way when it rains I can ruin 100% of my terminal tackle all at the same time!!!

 

seriously after 30 years of rusted hooks I just put 10-12 hooks in the original pack in my pocket while fishing . If I put it all together in a tackle box, might as well kiss it goodbye

Hooks and weights in old pill bottles.  The pill bottles go into a 3600 size box. The 3600 box gets moved between the tackle bag I use on the boat, and the tackle bag I use walking the bank.  I got the idea from watching a video from @A-Jay.

I do the same....I just rubber band hooks, jigheads and SHs into bundles by brand then by style.  I do the same with weights as well.  I can throw them into a plano, tackle bag pocket or big zip lock bait bag to keep them dry.  Storing hooks in planos can dull them especially if they are in a back pack or bag you carry often.

Seems like the foam bullet weight slots are a waste of space too. Could hold a lot more without them. They aren't as likely to fall out as just throwing em in the box but it isn't really a concern of mine anyways.

 

That edge box looks like the dividers are really thick. I use cheap Planos of different types and sizes, right now I use a small double-sided one. I mainly bank fish so I try and take only what I need.

You’re absolutely right they could hold a lot more, but for me anyway what I have is more than enough to last me several years. I just don’t lose that much and having more is just added weight and money wasted where I could spend it on something else.

I've got a bunch of Edge 3600 boxes, including the Flex and the terminal tackle box. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have ordered the terminal tackle box.

 

There are no dividers included, and none of the other 3600 Edge dividers will work due to the height difference. I actually emailed Tackle Warehouse recently to ask them to correct the description on their product page, because it incorrectly stated the 3600 terminal box comes with dividers. I believe that the 3700 version does include dividers.

 

Speaking of the lift-out boxes, they don't fit properly in any of the other Edge 3600 boxes. The spacing of the dovetails is different. This means that I can't, say, take a lift-out box containing drop shot hooks out of my terminal box and put it into a regular 3600 box for the day. Pretty disappointing in terms of modularity.

I picked up a Plane Edge Terminal Tackle box last year and so far so good.  It's pricey but it's the best thing I have seen so far.

I use this box and love it. I can cram far too much stuff in it and it is still organized. 

I don't feel the need for a specialized insert for weights. I tried some closed cell foam with holes in it in one of the compartments to see if it mattered. Nope not really. But I use no-chip weights so maybe that helps.

I have the Bass Mafia terminal tackle box. Overall it's a great box and I fit most things in it, but I could use a few more compartments in the front, as it's full but I still haven't sorted out my new purchases.

 

I believe I have my ned rig heads and/or drop shot weights separated by size, so I may have to just put them in together and that would work.

 

The major downside of this box is the smaller dropshot weights will often fall out of their compartment, and they're too small for the hook boxes.

I have my terminal tackle split between two 3700 size Flambeau containers with the z-rust dividers or whatever they call it. I do a lot of finesses fishing, so one box is crammed full of all my finesse hooks, jig heads, weights and such. The other box is full of my conventional sized hooks weights and jig heads. It just makes it easy for me to know exactly where to go when I’m looking for a hook or weight for a specific technique.
