Just wondering can you use 8lbs power pro slick 8 v2 or even the original, on a rod that is reccomended to 10-17lbs "mono" ? I know the reasons why to stay in the rage the rod reccomends, but with it being braid is it ok?

I don't think that I have ever once even looked at the line ratings on a rod.

Only time I worry about the line is "does the diameter work with this reel?" The rod line-rating is pretty much a non-issue.

The only difference in usage of most braids and nylon lines (8-20 lb. test) is that with commonly used knots, the knot strength of braid compared to its tensile strength is lower than nylon. The reason for this is that braid can literally cut into itself under pressure. You can get past this behavior by using knots such as the Bimini Twist, but that's not something freshwater fishermen often use.

And the knot is the weakest point, the weakest link in the chain.

So some of you are saying you use a heavy power rod without looking and put 8lbs on and think it's OK, wow alright then.

Well if you never look at what size line you use for what the rod recommends I'd imagine you would be doing something along them lines at some point.

In the relative scope of things line is not that expensive.  Try 3 or 4 different sizes and see which one catch you more fish.   Who cares if a line will allow you to cast a 1/billion oz lure to the moon if it snaps with the fish, in the condition that you like to fish and according to your ability.

I think most of us think along the lines of what purpose we purchased that particular rod for,,,,,,,,I doubt anyone of us would purchase a heavy rod for finesse presentations that would require a lighter line.  So NO, I don't think that's what anyone is saying.  Nor would we do something along them lines at some point.
