Ordered a falcon cara from Amazon and the rod they sent wasn't what was described. Pretty bummed. What they sent me was a "falcon cara peacock special" (cc-8-169H). Can't find much info on the rod online, so was hoping someone might be able to help me out with some details / review. Obviously not going peacock bass fishing anytime soon, is it serviceable for largemouth? It was discounted to $65 and brand new, just trying to make sure I don't have some hidden gem / lucky deal before I send it back. Thanks.

Thank you. Always looked through the forums, figured it was time to join.... Originally ordered a falcon cara "angler of the year" model (cc-5-168s). Hoping to use it for river smallmouth / spinnerbaits. So yes, the rod sent to me has a totally different function.

Welcome!  To me, the answer lies in the type of fishing you do and your personal financial situation.  Based on what I'm seeing on that rod, it would be perfect for large top waters and swimbaits and what I would call "Close Quarters Frogging" and even jigs.  The little lake I fish is full of stumps, laydowns, brush piles, etc., and most of my fishing is done from a Bass Raider. Sometimes I am up against several trees or casting to an exact spot without a lot of room around me.  A little shorter frog would be ideal for me in those situations.  I make do, of course, but this rod would make it better.  I wouldn't hesitate to call out Amazon and see if you can keep the rod AND get another one or at least another one at the same or even further discounted price.  If you have no use for a shorter, heavy action rod or can't afford another one, send it back and get what you wanted in the first place.

BTW...based on what I'm seeing, that is NOT a cheap rod and I'm not sure they even make it anymore.  You are right...there is not a lot of info on it

   This is just my opinion:

   1) If you got a Falcon Cara for $65, I'd keep it. You got a deal.

   2) If you really, really don't want to keep it, I'm sure you can sell it. I'm real sure.

   3) Perhaps in the future, you might feel differently and want a rod like that. If so, you've already got one that is high quality for a low price. You never know what might interest you next year.

Agree. Thank you for the info. I've found some great deals on rods in the "amazon warehouse" but buyer beware, they may send you the wrong rod.

Falcon makes that rod to fish for peacock bass in the Amazon river.  As Jaderose suggests it is very applicable for any close quarters situation that might require a heavier action rod.

He suggested frogging & swim baits.  If I had that rod, I'd probably use it for big spinner baits, or in-line spinners.  The way I see it you've got yourself a $65 muskie/pike rod.   Don't know if you've priced decent muskie & pike rods lately, but you got a deal.

Send it back if you must, but I wouldn't.  Put a Calcutta on that rod and you'll have a rig that I don't think any fish in America could tear up - maybe an alligator gar or a sturgeon, if they were motivated.  If you're really really really stuck for money and you really want than other rod, then send it back.

Either way, I'd call Amazon and tell them what happened.  They might suprise you.

Thank you for the insight. I agree, for sure a big fish rod. Too nice to send back. I have a curado 301e gathering dust in the basement (also a bargain steal) that will fit perfect on it. Can't go wrong chucking some big swimbaits on it.
