To me fishing is one of the most relaxing things a person can do. It is also one of the most exciting things. Not knowing what will be on the end of your line is like being a kid at Christmas for me. The satisfaction of picking the right lure or bait...The right presentation in the right spot is so gratifying. It's hard to not get caught up in all the technology and information that helps us become more successful at catching Bass. But in contrast , I also love watching my Grandkids fish or sitting down with a bobber and bait and catching some panfish. Sometimes I tend to forget that just being on or at the water(pond, lake or river) is a blessing no matter what I catch. I really do love fishing...Not just catching fish! *Disclaimer...Of Course I still seek that double digit Bass!?

I do REALLY enjoy fishing.  How else to explain the sign my sister got me for Christmas?  It is as sure as I am the #1 Dad - my son painted that on a coffee cup.  Or that I am the world's best lover, as per a Valentine's Day card from my wife years ago.

If you've ever fished the Kenai at 2am in June

it's nothing for a millwright to leave his desk at 3:30p, drive or fly to Kenai, fish all night and be back at his desk at 730a.

I made light of it, but it is good to reflect on why we enjoy certain things so much. it sounds like you have taken that time and have some really good reasons.

Granted, not all fishing, even bass fishing, is the same. The vast majority of the waters I fish for bass are ponds with water clarity of maybe 2' at best. So 99% of the bass are caught sight unseen. I was and still am a huge bowhunter. Deer are either heard, seen or both. You know there's a deer there when you get ready to take the shot. But these bass? No, it's a different story. That line could start out running slowly and it could be a dink, a decent 2 lb'er or something much bigger. Or it could take off like a bat out of hell or just simply stop cold and the result could be the same. It's the "unknown" of what I may set a hook in that ramps me up. And unlike deer, who I may set myself up for a better shot opportunity than others due to scouting, great stand location and placement, etc., I rarely have any impact on making the deer get close unless they respond to a grunt or can call, rattling antlers or scent. But pretty much every bass is caught due to my lure selection and the presentation I give it. And I am still learning a lot!

So, umm, yeah...I enjoy it!

The relaxation and serenity are definitely a big part of it for me. Would I be fishing if I had to compete with loads of other people, crowded together and crossing lines and jabbering all the time?

   NO!

So maybe I don't really love fishing as much as I thought, eh?

   Maybe not.           jj

I do enjoy fishing, but I inevitably attempt to convert it to catching, which I happen to enjoy even more.

For me it starts the night before getting all my "toys" ready, making sure I have the gear, cigars and lunch packed and made.  Getting up the next morning and getting to the water just as the sun comes up, throwing the first cast and spending the next few hours fishing and catching.  Even if the catching isn't great, the experience always is, fish generally don't live in ugly places.  I'm fortunate because I can do this 12 months of the year.

I do enjoy fishing.  Granted  I live in a big city and it's tough to find a bit of quiet and solitude.  Sometimes it's there. On my home stream, which I avoid on the opening day of trout season, I can find places where I'm the only one fishing.  There's one place I really enjoy fishing when you get dug in, you might not see another boat the whole day.

Fishing has been my one and only hobby/pastime, mental therapy, and main source of food since I could form memories

“REALLY enjoy” is an gross understatement

I love bass fishing, but I also love being out on the boat cruising around. So as long as I am on the water, I love it.

It's my favorite thing to do and it isn't even close. I voluntarily go out and subject myself to conditions that most consider dangerous to be in, for hours on end trying to catch a fish I'm just going to turn loose anyways.

I have grandsons that I have involved now. Bass fishing with lures and learning how to use them. Glad they like it. It’s fun. When I pass they will never need anything for bass fishing.  My stuff has to go somewhere. Want them to have it.

I really do,  even though it drives me crazy sometimes.  I get a lot of enjoyment seeing other people, who don’t fish as much, getting fish. I love putting people on fish.  The smiles and excitement. I also love the adventure

of driving 2.5-7.5 hours, alone or with your buddies, just to go fishin and very well get skunked. Staying up all Night. Or fishing 18 hours straight. Being cold, or wet, or dead tired. I love the excitement of getting new species or getting PBs. Also being out side seeing nature at its finest.    Birds chirping. Owls whoooing. Whales feeding.  Snakes, frogs, mice. Saw my first elk in Co last month fly fishing in 5 degree weather at 12,000. Incredible even tho the fishing was tough.  My first time in CO. Fishing is MUCH MORE, then catching fish.

When I was younger, the answer to this might have been yes but with a disclaimer that the intent was to go home with something to eat.

Its not even remotely close to that anymore.  I've learned to just enjoy it for what it is now.  Catching is a nice perk but to be honest its just satisfying to get away from the house, wife, kid, work, etc too.  I used to have the same outlook on deer and turkey hunting too when I was younger and first started participating.  Now its the peacefulness and solitude that I enjoy the most.
