I rarely if ever eat while fishing. Usually take a bottle or two water in the truck with me...maybe a soda pop for a little caffeine. On the drive home depending on which local I'm fishing ill stop at either Hardees or a local bar to grab a burger and fries.

I'm surprised, must not be many southerners on here.  Vienna sausage,, potted meat, Van Camp pork and beans, beanie weenies, and soda crackers stay well stocked on my boat.  I will usually crab some whoop cheese or sharp cheddar and maybe some boiled eggs, and some fruit, like banana's and Gala apples as I head out.  If it's real cold, I will take something hot in a large thermos to drink, but there are always plenty of bottles of water on it.

Just because the fish might not want to eat, don't mean we have to go hungry too.

Forgot to mention the Norwegian small, two layer sardines, always keep a few cans of those also.

bananas on a boat? Terrible fishing omen.  That's like catching lizardfish.

Don't bring a banana on someone else's boat - you'll be Jonah.

Saw my dad eat too many vienna sausages on the water when growing up.  Add high humidity and s. Texas sun reflecting off aluminum hull and seats - easy to lose an appetite.

I know all about the banana on a boat no, no., and because of that, I would never take a banana on someone else's boat.  This is my boat and have never believed in any of that voodoos crap.  Been taking banana's with me for over 50 years, and will be still be taking them with me when I go.  Haven't had any gremlin's get me yet.

probably no need to be defensive - I think fishing and sailing omens should be looked upon as cultural humor, and they're certainly always used that way among friends.  Bad day - who brought the banana?  See your buddy on the next kayak eating one, it's his turn in the barrel.  I'm pretty sure no one ribbing friends has animosity nor superstition about it.

here's what followed that lizardfish

I apologize if I denigrated state shrines.

chicken soup is my favorite lunch to eat out on the banks, just open up the thermos and pour some into a bowl, sit down and look at nature and slurp it up.742307349_dipologroadtrip1065.thumb.jpg.abf5bda37ecad0d57e8f8f3c37fe52c0.jpg

Well you better be looking at nature instead of the domestic fowl feet about to go down the hatch!!!

Haha! Me neither. My fiancé’s dad LOVES chicken feet but he grew up dirt poor and they ate most anything. I believe he eats them for shock factor nowadays

I don’t see how you can take time to eat while you are on the water.  I eat a ginormous breakfast and do my lunch on the way home if at all.

My wife's grandmother was an outstanding cook, and I wouldn't pass on anything she cook, except her chicken soup, with chicken feet.  She also liked them fried.

Jig Man I grew out of that fishing intensity many years ago.  When fishing became more to the point I no longer enjoyed it.  Found it a lot more enjoyable when I slowed down, and quit the running and gunning.  It's very common for me to lay down in the bottom of the boat and catch a little shut eye when the bite slows.  So, definitely don't have a problem grabbing a bite to eat along the way.  I also rarely spend all day on the water.  Usually, by noon time, the boat's on the trailer and then back in the water a few hours before dark.

i agree, need to chil out from the run and gun and i make it a priority to sit my butt down and eat a snack and it actually feels good at the time as it just feels like there is a load taken off my shoulders and a calming presence in my mind.

I compare it to a road trip as you are on mile 345 and you keep saying i am going to stop at the next town to eat and then up comes the next town and you say well the next one and before merle haggard can sing his next song on the radio its 10 pm and you still havnt stopped.

Either a roast beef po'boy fully dressed or an oyster loaf with lots of ketchup with a Barq's (Its Good) root beer.

Only problem is that we don't have the French bread in Virginia and I am on a diet. But one day.........

Yep, I rarely eat Vienna sausage or potted meat except when on the water.  They just don't taste the same.

Pull into a quite cove and just enjoy the surroundings,, watching the wildlife, maybe an eagle or osprey flying over or nesting close by.  That junk food seems to taste like a gourmet meal.  You get so relaxed sometimes you hate to go back to fishing.

That's another nice part about the south, the lakes I fish have have plenty of wooded areas all around them.

I should also mention that's the best nap in the world.  After eating, lay down in the boat and get about 15-20 minutes of shut eye, dang it feels good.

a work colleague had a great Vienna sausage story.

They were on a deep wall dive in the Caymans.  Somehow, they got the bright idea to feed Vienna sausages to angelfish (the guy's a PhD even).  If you know saltwater angelfish, they get as big as garbage can lids, and have a beak for biting off coral.  When they ran out of sausages, the angelfish went after their fingers, which look the same, and they were 110' down, trying to get away from the angelfish.

Help us indeed.

This thread serves a new purpose for me. I will bring it up if I am ever hungry while fishing. The sight of the chicken feet soup and Balut will kill my appetite for sure. ?

I'll eat chitlins fried but not just boiled. I also love fried chicken gizzards. As for on the water, historically its Mtn Dew, Funyuns, and beef jerkey with whatever candy bar I feel like for dessert. Now with a 10 yr old its GORP, m&ms, and an apple with some water.

As much food as I can stuff in the backpack, if bank fishing. I don't always bring that much but I have no problem bringing food.

Water in a reusable bottle. Buying bottled water is a waste in many ways, including your money. You spend more for water than on gasoline. I see 7-11 sells "Smart Water" - I beg to differ! :) Buy a filter and BE smart!

CamelBack system soon. Part of a burrito, peanut butter sammich, whatever food I may have laying around. Clif bars.

I don't want thirst or hunger to be a reason for me to leave early, and it has been many times. And when I'm not catching, heck ya I eat more. If I'm catching then I forget to eat.

Love having food to munch!
