garroyo130 Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I remove split rings and use speed clips on all crankbaits and have gone up to 6xd and have never had an issue. At the first sign of any damage/change, the speed clip gets tossed. Quote
mrpao Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I have been using the speed clips on most of my hard baits- crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater. Makes it quick and easy to change out lures. I haven't used it on anything that big though. Quote

Woody B Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I hate fumbling with a snap, especially if my hands are cold. I can tie a knot quicker than I can normally deal with a snap. I also hate when the knot gets to the ends of a split ring. A friend of mine gave me a big pack of duo locks. I replace my round snap rings with them most of the time, but just leave them on the lure instead of using them to change lures. I believe they're #2 size. I like the oval/oblong shaped split rings but I've got a bag of snaps. Quote

Norman Speed clips can be very difficult to remove, I don’t use them. Berkley Cross Lock is strong, my 2nd choice. Tom Quote

Really, it's whatever's easiest. I don't use heavy line for cranking, so I almost never bend out snaps or split rings. About 30lb braid or 12# mono/fluoro/poly is about as thick as I like to go, for depth reasons. So my line usually snaps long before any hardware failure. So I generally pick whichever sized snap will be the easiest to get on and off. 1 Quote
