NavyVet1204 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 The SLX, Curado K etc.? Curious as I have some birthday funds from the family and was thinking about picking one up out of curiosity. Personally I feel like the chip is just one more thing that will fail over time(what doesn’t?) and wasn’t sure if it’s worth the extra coin over a standard reel. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 18, 2021 Super User Posted January 18, 2021 I got a Curado DC for father’s day. I liked it well enough to pick up another one. 1 Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I love the sound of DCs. It's like finding a putter and golf ball combo that feels and sounds right. I don't think the DC reel outperforms the others, what it does do is prevent backlash, for me at least. It's a great beginner's reel for learning baitcasters. I am more partial to my Citica I 200HG and Curado I 200HG. Older technology, but workhorses and very durable. Whether or not they are worth the extra money, well some people prefer Toyotas over Lexus and vice versa. 1 Quote
Hudson McLean Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I own a curado dc and i love it. however, i personally don't see me purchasing another one while this one is still working. i've got 6 different baitcast combos and one dc is perfect for me. I feel like regular baitcasters are adequate enough for me to not need another one. it excels when its windy out or if i'm gonna be skipping for long period of time but other than that, casting distance is pretty much on par with a normal baitcaster. 2 Quote
Logan S Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I don't have any of the latest model DC reels, but I can say that all the ones I do have have been trouble free (a few for more than 10 years now). It's pretty impressive how reliable the DC systems are. The only thing different about DC reels when it comes to maintenance is that it's slightly more difficult to get at the spool bearing on the side with the DC unit, but it's more like adding a step or two to the process...Not a drastic increase in difficulty. 1 Quote
Maico1 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 Been fishing with DC reels since their inception Round 2003(Conquest) and Low Profile 2006(Antares/ Calais DC7) including their most current models. Never have had an issue with their performance ie: DC Module failure. Have only seen refinement to these reels over the years needing less time to maintain and easier access to do so. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 18, 2021 Super User Posted January 18, 2021 I only have one...an older Exsence DC I bought used. Love it. When I visit Florida, I have to change my casting stroke (a lot), and it takes me time to adjust (lot of jerking on rod reversal). And I'm not talking a few minutes. My brother-in-law thinks I am very patient because of how often I have to clear overruns and backlashes. I don't think he believes me when I tell him I hardly ever have either one when fishing at home. Reels with DC, SV and Magforce 3D make it so much easier because they can put up with a not so smooth stroke. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 19, 2021 Super User Posted January 19, 2021 I have the Curado DC and so far so good. It's smooth, casts great, and has taken a beating since I got it but it's a tool for a purpose> fishing in difficult situations. I don't know if I would use it as my go to reel though. I have used mine on various rods for heavy jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. 1 Quote
