I am curious to hear form those who have used both.  In general, which would you prefer and why?

Also, in the megabass lineup, see below, trying to narrow it down a little, again any thoughts from folks who tried both?

  • I would like to hear thoughts on the Cyclone vs Z-Crank?
  • I would like to hear thoughts on the Blade vs Madbulll?
  • I would like to hear thoughts on the Tachyon Shaft vs X-Bites?

I have a lot of the same questions. I keep looking at the stats on the lighter P5 rods such as the Z-Crank and trying to figure out what the numbers mean in real life. At this point I'm thinking I would like a rod for small cranks and/or Rapala DT-4 and maybe -6.

I own 3 Conquest casting rods: 783, 843 and 844, but have nowhere nearby to get my hands on Megabass rods. I could just order an 842C and be done with it.  :)

I find that the megabass rod really destroys all of its competition, but the G Loomis rod really set out on a conquest to become one of the best rods available.

Give ben a call at the hook up tackle, he has spent time with a lot of the new p5 rods and can definitely help you out. He has videos on YouTube that talks about them as well.

I was in the same boat wondering if I should keep my conquest 843c or get the x-bites, I spoke with ben and a few other guys that said sensitivity wise they are about the same but balance and build quality megabass wins.

Also I was told even though rod ratings on the xbites say up to 1 ounce that 1/2 jig plus trailer is the max they would throw on it.

I was wondering the same thing.

Maybe get rid of my Conquest 844 and 843 to get the Xbites and Dark sleeper.

Has anybody actually held the P5 in hand? How comfortable is the new handle design. I know everyone holds their rods differently but in general some designs are more comfortable than others.

I have all the casting models of Conquest.  The Megabass P5 Xbite has a faster tip and more backbone compare to 843c. Both of them balance well. But I don't like the handle of P5. I always feel it may slip out of my hand.  Conquest 843c is a must have. By the way, I sold my NRX 853c for the Xbite. No regret.

Balance and build quality only wins when you're comparing the p5s to the nrx's, not the conquests. I have both, the conquest is a tad lighter for equal power, has higher end guides, good fit and finish and a warranty nobody can beat. Oh, the balance stuff is about the same nrxs, the conquests balance really well. Megabass warranty doesn't compare. Again,i have both. When you put your $550 towards a conquest you never lose that money. Snap an xbites in three years and watch megabass tell you your warranty is over. I love my p5s but saying the p5s are an overall better rod isn't accurate.

I have a megabass destroyer validation.  I think it's a 400 dollar rod.  It doesn't even have a hook guard.  It's decent but that isn't acceptable.   I think it's a 2018 version.

You mean hook keeper? Most megabass and other Japanese rods don’t come with one. That’s why Fuji and other companies sell the little ones you attach with an o ring

Isn't the Conquest a Japanese rod? The blanks are from Japan and Shimano has owned Loomis since 1997.  :)

Thank you. I'm been doing a lot of reading during the past 2 or 3 weeks and every time I see a weight mentioned for a Megabass rod they seem a little high.

And I like full cork grips, too.

To my knowledge, G Loomis always has, and currently still makes all their blanks at their woodland Washington facility. They do not use shimano blanks. :)

"The Conquest rods are not just designed by the combined global team but continue to be manufactured through a global process that includes the blanks being rolled by Shimano and then sent to the U.S. where they are finished in the G.Loomis Woodland Washington factory."

edited to add:

"G.Loomis explained to us that the rod design process was an extensive one, with teams traveling back and forth, and some of the G.Loomis rod engineers including Dave Brinkerhoff being deployed in Asia for extended periods. After the design was complete it was then decided that the manufacturing of these rods would also be an international endeavor to ensure that they would leverage the best of what each team and manufacturing site had to offer."

To me the lack of a hook keeper is a plus. I'd rather put my own on where I like it to be with the option to move it. Also the Fuji hook keepers function as either a Texas rig type keeper or a treble hook keeper depending on whether it is folded up or left down. I hate it when I they put a Texas rig keeper on a rod I'm wanting to use as a cranking rod and have to try to wedge a treble hook into it likely dinging the finish as I do.

If fact I'd pay extra just to have them not put a keeper on a rod.

I specifically do not put one on my custom builds. Maybe it's just me,

but I don't like them.

I really need some help between these 2 decisions

Z-Crank vs Cyclone.  Both are Medium Regular rods, very similar weights.  Trying to understand the why one over the other.  To me, its seems the Cyclone would be better, looks like it can do what the Zcrank can do but not the other way around.  Zcranks is a little longer.  Which would you pick and why?  I am leaning towards Cyclone in this battle.

Blade vs Madbull.  Both are Med Heavy rods, similar action and same lure and line weights.  One is classified as a bladed rod (whatever that means) and one is a deep crank rod.  Seems like not enough of a difference to me.  Similar lengths etc.   Which would you pick and why? I am leaning towards the Madbull just becuase of the carbon fiber handle. Looks good - no other reason.

Thoughts?

Interesting!

How would you compare your Conquest 843c vs the X-Bites. I am looking for the ultimate senko + 3/8oz Jig(+trailer) rod and the two rods (actually the 903c) are contenders for me.

Thanks!
