bigspirit Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Looking to get something bigger than my current setups (4 medium rods, Lol) to throw bigger lures. I’m thinking chatterbaits, spinner baits, and smaller swim baits (like a keitech 4.8 or baby bull shad kind of thing). I understand it may be best to have different rods for that but right now just looking for one setup as I might not use it as much as my others. Thinking a curado 200k (if this is not a good reel for this kind of setup let me know!) and a MH rod? I’m more interested in power and action right now but I’ll always listen to suggestions for a brand and model too. Thanks! Quote

I use bass pro Patriot rods but there are lots of fine rods out there. If you could spend more I'd get a Lews Custom Lite at Sportsmans outfitters for 209. 1 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 17, 2021 Super User Posted January 17, 2021 I throw cahtterbaits on Shimano Expride 7'2 MH-G (moderate) with 40lb braid. I throw spinnerbaits on a Shimano Zodias 7 MH (fast) with 12lb Sufix 832. However I think these rods are very much interchangeable due to the line I have on them. The rod absorbs some of the hook set with the braid and the line absorbs some of the hook set with the mono but both have the ability to drive the hook home. I do believe the MH fast action is a better all around rod though if that is what you are after. I would feel confident throwing a Texas rig on the MH-f if I need to. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted January 17, 2021 Super User Posted January 17, 2021 I can suggest three rods I have a bit of experience with that would work well for these lures (no problem throwing them all on the same rod) Daiwa Tatula 7'1" MH/XF Dobyns Siera 704C H/F (basically a MH, very similar in power and action to the above Daiwa) St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'1" MH/F Jig/Bait Another rod worth considering is the Shimano Zodias 7'2". The above rods are what I would consider MH+ rods (on the heavy side). The Zodias is even a little bit heavier, makes a good jig rod. I'm generally a Daiwa reel fan myself (the brakes are simply better) but for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and swimbaits, the Curado 200k is a very far casting reel so it's a good choice for this application. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 17, 2021 Super User Posted January 17, 2021 I will have my K on a 7' MH Fast St. Croix Avid this upcoming season. I have had this rod for years and it has seen several Curados over the years. It is sort of my do all rod (aka Jack of All Trades). I know how it casts, balances and feels under load. I can use it for anything I tend to fish. I may have over recommended this rod on this forum but I have yet to find one that equals it's value, versatility, and sensitivity, plus its stood up to plenty of abuse. Quote

I've come to like longer casting rods so my preference would be a 7'-7'4" MH. Either a Fast, Regular or Med. Fast action. I could live with my 7'2" MHR OG Tatula for those techniques. Also I think jbsoonerfan did not mean 12# Sufix 832. I personally use a fair amount of their 12# Siege. Even have Elite on one reel. Quote
