Okay, so after fishing with the LFS for a few weeks now, i’m not completely sold on it, the thumb bar sometimes jams on me, and the reeling just sometimes feels like sand is stuck in it and it’s grinding, so right now i can either exchange it for another LFS (maybe i got an unlucky one) or exchange for SLX or pay difference for a Curado K... so is the curado K worth the extra money or is the SLX the better buy? I’m leaning more towards the curado simply for the looks of it, and i heard it’s extremely smooth.

Maybe it’s soup grinding in the gears.   I’ve had terrible luck when I tried the LFS.  Can’t stand that reel.  As for the slx or curado.   You’re better off going the next step up from the slx and get the advantages of the curado.   What’s a few more bucks?

I have a few slx and curado models, and the slx is amazing for the money and there is no “need” to step up... but I still think it’s worth it to step up if you can. Those curados are great and the drag is much better (except the slx mgl which is the only one to have a carbon disk drag).

The advertising puts distance between the SLX and the Curado, but for me the main difference is line capacity. I use large-diameter nylon line, so it makes the Curado more attractive for me.     jj

Oh yeah.   Go SLX MGL.  Those reels are something.   ?? forget the curado.  You’d be extremely happy with the slx mgl.

Have the Curado K and the SLX MGL. Both serve a different purpose. The Curado K is for 3/8oz and up, currently spooled with 14lb mono about 110yds. The SLX MGL is for 3/8 and under, currently spooled with 10lb mono about 90yds.

Both are great reels. The Curado feels a bit more refined and casts very far. The SLX MGL also casts great but excels with lighter lures, which is what it's designed to do well.

SLX is fine for its price point, with Curado K, you’ll get better paint/color, xtra bearing, micro module gears minus 50 bucks.

I like smaller reel and lighter weight reel, so I’ll go with SLX. The K though, should hold up in value, in case you wanna upgrade later.

50? isn’t it like 80?, but i get what you mean, and when you say hold up in value, you mean trading/selling value later on? i’d totally just get the slx if it wasn’t for the colors, i have the XT already, but the colors are just something else lol

I have to exchange it with something available at Dicks Sporting since i had this giftcard and code for a “courtesy adjustment” since they messed up badly on an order

I have been watching this guys rod and reel repair on line forget his name, any who he said they are both great reels, but if your going to be casting lighter lures get the SLX, I got a curado K200 and the spool capacity is enormous should have gotten slx mgl. But the curado will also serve me for light ocean fishing. He also mentioned that for $30 or so you can get a major bearing upgrade and carbon drag washer for the standard Slx and it will be very comparable to the curado.

If you have the XT already you likely will be disappointed by the regular SLX

If you want a better reel, get the Curado.  If you want a better deal, get the SLX.

What line are you using? My suggestion would be if you are using something like 15-20lb line, go with the Curado K and if you are going with 10-12lb line, go with the SLX MGL 70 for the smaller profile.

I mean, i fish pretty light, most of the time i stay in the 1/4 1/2 maybe 5/8 range most of the time with soft plastics n finesse jigs and lipless cranks/ wakes (just naming what i’ve been using as of late) heaviest i throw that i can think of is maybe the baby bull shad and a chatterbait with a paddle tail on it but that’s really about it

I have a number of Curado's of one sort or other, big fan of that line of products.

Worth a look. Mine's on a Dobyns FR733c, 30 LB braid to leader. No problem effortlessly firing out a 3/16oz  Bitsy Bug/CrawZ or Ned due to the ultra light spool. Very well built. Externally adjustable centrifugal brakes, so no need to open a sideplate to adjust brake blocks.

I own the SLX & K.  I'd get two SLX's. It'd only be $20 more & then you have a reason to get a new stick.

id get the slx mgl or like green pig said get two slx's, could get a high ratio one and a low ratio one if you like having a couple rods. Upgrade the drag and bearings as you see fit. I don't think there is any benefit to the curado especially if you fish light and dont have a spinning outfit. Ultimately go to the store bring your favorite rod seat both the reels in your rod and see what feels best. may want to tape the reel feet with masking tape if your reel seat isnt gentle.

whoops sorry missed the fact they dont have the MGL.

problem is there’s none in stock of either at the store lol, but i do have an XT so i know how an SLX would feel like, and i do have a spinning set up a shimano stradic, but if i get the SLX i’d save about 80 bucks for other gear anyway, can’t go wrong either way, just want that LFS gone tho, fished with it today, and for some reason when i was reeling in, i felt the reel just seized for a second or two and i had to like jam it to get it reeling again ?
