mheichelbech Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 When you are the partner wo the boat or a non- boater in a tournament how do you pack your various jigs? I got a bait binder but it is overfilled at this point and not really wanting to thin the herd on what I take with me. Also, how pack and organize baits when you have limited storage such a fishing as the co-angler in a tournament? Obviously current conditions could help thin out the herd and what the boater angler plans to fish can help also but what else do you do? For example if we are fishing muddy water, I know I’m probably not throwing jerkbaits or 4 inch worms on light tackle which helps some but not totally. Quote
Dens228 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 I can fit everything I need coving pretty much everything in 5 3700 Plano Edge boxes. Four thin, two standards. Throw in a worm binder filled with spinnerbaits and I'm good to go. They fit in the crate on my kayak and fit in a medium sized tackle bag. One thin has my jigs....bottom, swim, chatter Another thin has my topwater lures from frogs, poppers, wake baits Another has jerkbaits and glide baits Regular has cranks,,,,,I have 33 of them in there right now Regular has my assorted plastics Edge Terminal has, well my terminal stuff........It's about as thick as the thins Quote
Sphynx Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 The EDGE jig box from plano does pretty great work by my estimation, got 51 jigs in it, and got room for the punching/California swim jigs I'm waiting to be in stock to order, and I figure they should fit relatively easy 3 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 16, 2021 Super User Posted January 16, 2021 When I fish as a partner non-boater I use Tackle bags similar to Shimano Batica medium size. This bag hold 3600 size boxes, the large holds 3700 size. The pockets hold all your scent, pliers, sun screen small boxes, etc. The secret to is condensing down to what you need in lieu of everything you own. Tom 2 Quote

One thing I’ve thought about is separating the jigs and skirts and just putting the skirts on when I get to the lake and see how the fishing is going to be. I probably could also cull some of my weights down. I don’t really need 3/16, 1/4,5/16,3/8,7/16,1/2. Sure I could be easy enough with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. 31 minutes ago, WRB said: When I fish as a partner non-boater I use Tackle bags similar to Shimano Batica medium size. I have a similar bag as you do except mine is not a Shimano it’s practically the same thing. Thanks! Quote
NJBasstard Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 If your okay with a 3700 size box then the EDGE jig box is worth looking at. I have 60+ jigs in mine ranging from 1/4 tungsten casting jigs to 3/4 football jigs and chatterbaits. Everything stays organized and it easy to see & get too. Quote

Yea I used to use those and switched to the 3600s. Was thinking about changing back again. I do change things out seasonally. My setup for late winter/early spring is: - box for shallow running crankbaits to 4 feet. - box for some deeper cranks and rattle trap type baits. - box for jerkbaits and an increasing collection of bladed jigs. - smaller box for terminal tackle including weights, hooks, leaders, etx. - binder for jigs and spinnerbaits. - worms/craws, tubes and swimbaits go in the side and front pockets. S the water warms up I will add in buzz baits. it may just be I need so full some jigs out. Plan to take a close look at that jig box. Quote

Seeing as I am spending more time this last year plus in one area, the box is currently a hodgepodge of colors, styles, and weights, but as you can clearly see you could probably fit 70-80 jigs in there if you really wanted or needed to, I don't fish tournaments (or at least I haven't done so to this point in my journey) but I would be willing to bet that a fellow is unlikely to lose 50-60 jigs in a day's time, so loading the box up or changing the included jigs would be a seriously inconvenient thing in some boxes, fortunately the EDGE box makes this less laborious than the boxes I used to use, I have no experience with the competitors offerings, and I believe there are 2 or three companies now that have released products in the last few years to directly compete with this line of boxes, so I'd definitely do what I could to get my hands on them and see which one suits you best if you decide to invest in nice boxes, do be warned however that they are not at all inexpensive, but the organization system, rust prevention measures, and the durability/functionality of these boxes made the price worth the expense to protect my treasured tackle, I am sure other people have systems that work just as well though, so don't be afraid to tinker with a couple different options until you get it right...I could buy a whole lot of tackle boxes for the price of replacing an entire box of rusted, lost, or broken jigs. @reelChris Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Before you spend time packing anything, talk to your partner to see what kind of fishing they're planning on doing. You might not need jigs at all. Quote
Lead Head Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 I usually only have skirts on a few jigs. I also only have a handful of skirts pre-made. I keep jig heads of various designs, weights (almost all 3/8 and 1/2oz), and colors in a standard 3700 box. I bring my "on the fly" skirt making kit with me. You can fit way more skirt making materials than you will ever need in 1 trip in a zip-lock bag. I've only had to get the kit out 1 time on the water, but it makes me feel better having it along. Super User Boomstick Posted January 16, 2021 Super User Posted January 16, 2021 I just got the Plano Edge jig box. It carries significantly more baits than I had in my old Bass Mafia 3700 and as a plus it also fits chatterbaits. Quote
