I am going to bass pro tomorrow to look at the sea eagle 8 :):D :D :D :D. It is $450 and I am thinking of matching it with a trolling motor. I was looking into the pond prowler 30/30. It is reasonably priced and has gotten some great reviews. I have been stuck shore fishing my whole life and would love to actually get on the water.

I will not be using the boat as much as anyone else as I still am in school. But I would love to have the option of using it. I feel that my catch rate will highly increase. What do you guys think?

Suggestions are appreciated! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Congrats and good luck. I would also check craigslist or eBay. You may find one much cheaper!

Highly increase? Tough to say. Increase? It should.

How often, when fishing from shore, have you looked longingly at areas you cannot reach with a cast, or cannot get to or cast from because of trees, bushes, etc.

The simple fact that the boat will make new areas accessible should increase your catch. Not only that, but you will be able to cast toward the shore and retrieve to deeper water.

In the end, it falls on you making the best use of the boat.

thanks guys, but I am not sure the boats on ebay or craig's are reliable. I was going to bass pro shops to take a look at it. The problem with ordering online is you may never know what you are getting. This is one of my biggest investments and I want to make it count.

I agree w/ checking craigslist. I saw some locally around me this week. You can get that boat alot cheaper than new. Don't worry about it being used. There's no electronics, motor, gauges, lights, trailer, etc. to worry about like most used boat purchases. As long as it floats then there is nothing else to worry about on it.

I say Pond Prowler 10' (If you go out by youself alot get the 8'). They look like a nice boat also. You will increase you catch ratio for sure. I know I did. Good luck and have fun.

I'd give some thought to getting a stronger trolling motor and don't skimp on the battery.  I had a rig just like that and wound up getting a 50# to put on it and it made all the difference.  It would take me so long to get to the other end of the lake and same on return trip, only battery would be barely turning prop!  I'd also consider getting the 10 ft. model, as the 8' is really short! I'd also consider find a used aluminum john boat.  You can do a heckuva lot with one of them.  JMO.  Good luck and know you'll enjoy it!

Buy the aluminum john like others are saying. There much more versatile than those plastic things. You can also put a small outboard on one some time later as well as have much more space for gear and other items. For what your talking about used would not hurt you at all, it would just save you money. Even a leaky john boat is easily fixed and will float.

I picked up a Pond Prowler 9' off of Craiglist for $500. Came with two trolling motors, a 50# and 30#, both are Minnkota Enduras, as well as an anchor, lifevests, paddles, and two batteries. Definitely keep your eyes open for deals on there! :)

I dont know if you have already went through with buying your boat or not yet. I bought myself the 8' pond prowler last week. I love this little thing. It says you can fish two people on it but i dont really see how. But for one person it works great. I bought the 99 dollar trolling motor from BPS too. I beleive it is called the bass prowler or something like that. Its a 30 lbs thrust and it makes that little boat go so fast it creates wake behind it. I also like it because it fits perfectly on the back of my truck with the tail gate down and it is really easy for me to load and unload by myself. Good luck on purchasing your boat and believe me does it ever broaden your horizons fishing from a boat vs bank sishing ponds.
