Randy Price Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I have a coworker who has asked for my help. He wants to buy an "all purpose" spinning rod. He has selected a MF for power and action. I suggested something in the 6'6"-7'0" length. He is primarily a bank fisherman and leaning towards a 6'6" SC Premier (PS66MF) with a 2500 Shimano Sahara reel. What length do you all recommend? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 13, 2021 Super User Posted January 13, 2021 6 1/2' - 7' is pretty standard. 5 Quote
GTN-NY Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I would guess it depends on the banks he is fishing. Lots of overhang trees then a 6’. Wide open overhead but tall grasses 7’ or longer 2 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 13, 2021 Super User Posted January 13, 2021 As already stated the area he will be fishing in will determine length. A 7 footer won't do him much good if he barely has room to swing a 6 footer. I didn't know better back before the Internet and used a Lightning 6' ML spinning rod for everything. Mostly fished from shore, but occasionally we rented a boat. Wish I had known back them that my 6' ML was the wrong tool. 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted January 13, 2021 Super User Posted January 13, 2021 Personal preference. For me, it's 6'6" to 7', with a preference towards 7'. But if all I can find are shorter rods, I fine down to 6'6". Even 7'3" would probably be acceptable. 1 Quote
Randy Price Posted January 13, 2021 Author Posted January 13, 2021 Thanks guys. I'm glad that we were thinking alike. Quote
