Hello!

I'm looking for setup for micro jigging perch. Only requirement is that the rod is capable to throw 0.07oz - 0.40oz baits. I'm totally new to UL rods and reels and I totally need some help from you guys. So I'm looking for rod and reel for  total under 150€.

Thanks for your help!

There are a couple good rods from St. Croix that fit that criteria. I would look at their Triumph and Premier lines. If you want to spend a little bit more (I would) I would get the Avid. It's a much nicer rod for a little bit more money.

I would agree with the St Croix rods. I would add to that list, the TFO panfish series, Cashion rods came out with a crappie line of rods that I really like as well. Have heard good things about the Trout Magnet rod as well, but have never fished one. I have one of each of the other rods I have mentioned and all are a lot of fun to fish.

I have a St.Croix Panifish Series UL rod and it's great for perch, but it's not going to throw lures that are 3/8 oz. or 0.40 oz.

The only UL rod that can cover that range is a long Japanese Rockfish - over 8'

You could build your own from a 4- or 5-wt fly rod blank.

I UL fish a lot. I have caught a ton of fish on Shakespeare micro spin....its like a $30 combo. Its actually a good rod and I have caught a 3.4 lbs bass on it. Might want to try it for a cheap way to start UL.

If your going for surf perch I'd go ML rod.

Are you in USA? But I assume from .07oz you converted grams to oz, you are in Europe. If you are looking for a rod that capable of 2-10 grams lure, @bulldog1935is about right. You have to look for JDM Light Game jigging Saltwater rod. Another word Ajing rod with tubular tip (solid tip, is risky if you cast all the way to 10 grams.) you are in luck there since Europe got a lot more of UL selection than USA.
I normally don’t mixed up my 1-2 grams rod to 8-12 grams rod. The one I use the most between 2-8 grams is CRUCIAL dropshot ML 1/16-1/4oz lure later. You could get away with Light rod to cover all the base you want.

Yes I'm from Europe and I mainly fish in fresh water. 2-10 grams is the range I would like to play with. Any spesific jdm rod/reel u suggest?

I’m using Majorcraft rod along with couple of my friends. I have Mebaru which is nice bend to the bank why both my friends went with Ajing (solid tip) a lot more backbone and faster tip. Majorcraft is pretty reasonable price. If you want a shorter rod 6’6 or shorter, you might have to get bass series in UL with even more backbone and will handle down to 2 grams lure easily.

For the reels, whatever you like but I love Daiwa LT 2000 series in any price range. I like lighter reel that match the super light weight Majorcraft rods. If you like shimano, I would go with Stradic FL 2000 series at least.

Major Craft is a good brand.  Also check NS Black Hole from Korea.

Here is their spec chart for Dark Horse Rockfish model - I have the 802L, and it's a workhorse for UL, and priced at entry level.

What you gain with the longer UL rockfish rods is the ability to cast UL to great distance, cast a wide lure weight range, and to handle bigger fish - they're intended for shore fishing (rather than vertical jigging from a boat).

The 832L matches your spec, and though just slightly heavier (still very light in hand), the performance compares to the high grade Yamaga Blanks rods.

here's a pretty good video of the spendy Yamaga blanks 83 at work - at about 7 minutes, he catches two fish with shoulders, a sea perch and a sea bass, and if you watch for fish broaching, you can see how far out he's casting and fishing.

You can also see why they call them rockfish rods - fishing from the rocks and reaching out to deeper fish.

I fish both rods I mentioned on this thread.  Fishing tandem rigs, both rods have landed doubles, including mix of seatrout, redfish and snook.  While I take the NS Black Hole rod out on my kayak, would never do that with the expensive Yamaga Blanks rod.

I fish these with Shimano Stradic 1000, 2000, and Vanquish 2000,

also Tica Libra SL 1500

My buddy Lou bought his wife Susie the 7'6" Major Craft Crosstage XUL, and sometimes she lets him fish it.  She flipped fishing my 12-y-o Takamiya 7'6" XUL, and Lou went straight in to his computer and ordered the Major Craft with matching specs.

My NS Black Hole came from ebay vendor Autter drop shipped from Seoul - I know Maguro Pro Shop in Croatia handle the brand in Europe (worldwide tackle on ebay).

UL rockfish rods are also big in UK, and there are vendors for several different brands.

I really like the idea of a spinning reel on a fly rod! I love fly fishing don’t get me wrong but sometimes you just don’t have the room for a back cast on a fly rod.

You really have me thinking bulldog1935. ?
