I try to follow the Ron Swanson pyramid of greatness on this one - cultivating a manly musk puts your opponents on notice.  Also I've found through experience, that after a few weeks without a shower, you develop a 'crust'.  Most things that would bother you such as mosquitos and chiggers just leave you alone.  The fire ants will still tear you up if you happen to crawl over their hill; the crust has its limits.  I've been told that this musk/crust is inappropriate for the office environment, so I use the cheapest soap I can fine.  I echo the great topic sentiments, but threads like these beat what's in the news.

There are some things you just have to experience to understand.  In the service, there were several instances where there were no opportunities to shower for several weeks.  Some guys still took Fabreeze showers, I just said to heck with it.  After learning that insects leave you alone (as do a lot of people), I decided it wasn't all bad.

Used Dove for a long time. Then had to switch to Dial Gold. I was required to use it for a while before I had my knee replacement surgeries because of the antibacterial properties it has. I still use Dial but also have some Dove here too.

Let me just say that I love you guys.  I made a bet with my son that there would be X number of responses to a question that most people would never ask let alone expect a response.  But the interest in personal hygiene here is overwhelming and you all should be commended for that.  And yes,  this thread is better than anything on the news right now.  I actually use body wash but that’s because I shave my under arms.

As much as I enjoy kidding around, there comes a time to be serious

When my wife & I were land-hunting in Georgia, we trampled many acres of wild fields.

Well, we eventually got torn-up by chiggers, which was a totally new experience for us Yankees.

Nothing short of a doctor's script had any effect at all on our ugly, itchy chigger rashes.

I talked to a farmer in Palmetto, GA, named Clovis, who swore to me that he's never had

one chigger bite in his life. That left me in a big quandary, but guess what, after living in Georgia

about a year, Lois & I couldn't get a chigger bite if we tried (Wonders of the human immune system).

With regard to fire ants, they still attack my wife with a vengeance, and still have no use for me.

A nonprescription antifungal soap that I would recommend is "Original DEFENSE Bar Soap".

That failing, I would turn to "Hibiclens" (chlorhexidine gluconate) in a pump bottle.

The doctor told me to use Dove because of my dry skin.  I use that most of the year, but there are times that nothing beats good old Dial.

Been using nothing but Dove since 1980.  Back then I was playing GI Joe and spending months at the time in the field.  when you did get a chance to wash off, there was limited water.  Since Dove is more of a cleansing cream than a soap,, it rinses off much better and doesn't leave a soap film on your body.

You will probably find a lot of Rangers, Special Forces and other units that have to travel light with limited support/supplies use Dove.

Not Lava, but Tide. Yes, the powder detergent.  My dad did the same thing (put a small box next to the basement sink).  Now I use it too after doing yard work, working on the car/boat, etc.

Safeguard, unless it’s hunting season. Then it’s unscented body wash and shampoo, followed by unscented deodorant (Mitchum) and unscented body powder (I make my own with 50%-50% baking soda and cornstarch).

It’s one thing to stink after fishing. It’s another to smell before bowhunting!

Bar soap, I use Kirk’s Castile original fresh scent. Good in the winter for its simple non-drying ingredients.

Body wash, I use Old Spice Deep Scrub with sea salt. The matching deodorant stick is the best I have ever used. It has lemon essential oil in it and made me kiss anti-perspirant goodbye.

If you suffer from dry skin get some unscented Vaseline body lotion and rub it in after a shower.
