Tanker4lyfe Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Ok so I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4, and Im looking at getting a Triton 18 Explorer. I can tow about 2500 pounds safely. i was curius as to how much a boat and trailer weights. So if you guys could please post your weights so i can get an idea that would be awesome. Quote
stew6371 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 you should be fine towing that boat with your jeep. my uncle used to tow his 20ft procraft with a jeep. his was heavy though, so it could be hard to stop if he had to make a sudden stop. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 5, 2009 Super User Posted July 5, 2009 You will have to find out the weight of the motor, boat, trailer, batteries, gasoline, and gear. That boat weighs about 1200 so you are half way to max and you still have to add trailer, motor, etc. What size engine are you going to go with? A 115 will weigh about 350 and a 150 about 400. A trailer for that boat woud be 5-600 on average. So we have to figure gear, gas, and batteries. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 5, 2009 Super User Posted July 5, 2009 Check with manufacturer or where you purchased your boat for its specs and weights. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted July 5, 2009 Super User Posted July 5, 2009 Most feed and fertilizer places have scales, many won't even charge you to weigh it. You can park the boat on it so your Jeep is off it and get a quick weight and just add what you think your tounge weight is. If you want it exact, park in on the scales and disconnect from it. Just be sure you have your normal load, a tank of gas, batteries, TM and gear is going to add a good bit of weight. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 5, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 5, 2009 You're pushing it pretty close to the edge. A full tank of gas on that boat (36 gals) is about 250lbs. With gear, batteries, and all, the boat itself is around 2,000lbs. The trailer for my 20' Ranger is 1,400 lbs, and while I doubt your trailer is close to that, you only have about 500 lbs left for wiggle room. With numbers that close, I agree with Way2slow in that you're going to have to weigh the actual boat & trailer to know. Keep in mind tongue weight is about 10% of the total weight. So make sure your hitch can handle it. Quote
