Both are really nice reels, very interested in the Alpha TW.

About the Steez I've seen the "in depth" of the YouTube channel Tackle Advisors and the guy is very disappointed since the new Steez limited is almost the same of the 2016 model.

To clarify, it’s not the reel itself he’s disappointed in as he has stated many times over the years that the Steez is one of his favorite reels. He’s disappointed in the massive increase in marketing language (hyper this, hyper that) that leads one to believe there is something new here.

The real question will be what kind of improvement the SV Boost spool may give, which his reel teardown doesn’t attempt to address.

I usually watch his videos and somehow missed this one.  Thanks for pointing me in that direction.  After watching it though, it's quite eyeopening.  The Limited really looks like the same reel.  It's a shame Daiwa would do this, especially on a reel that appears to be geared towards fans of the Steez (kind of like me).  In a way, having worked in printing and marketing for many years, it reminds me that you can charge more for anything that is chrome plated.

I think marketing works and Daiwa might sell a few more reels with the branding.

Unfortunately, the enthusiast like TA will see past the marketing then the question becomes, is the SV boost spool and a paint job worth $100 bucks. The Curado 70 MGL is the same story, price bump for spool and new reel color.

The Slx MGL is a really good machine for its price IMO, but as you said @Tim Hu it's esencially an XT with an upgraded shallow spool but not narrower than the standard. The real question here, I guess, it is if the new Steez worth its price in comparison to the older model since the new one seems to be the same reel with a gray Shimano touch

It's a shame really. A nice chrome finish doesn't really give you anything but added weight and cost on any reel. You get the new spool which I can see being a bit more expensive. However, if you buy a "Limited Edition" of anything, one should expect the base parts to be pretty much really close to the original. If a majority of the reel was different, you'd have a different reel. I definitely agree the marketing language has got to get toned down, but we're all fishermen. We've all gotten caught by shiny things just as much as the fish have at one time or another.

The new curado k 70 mgl also has micro module gears and a mgl spool. The mm gears alone is a nice welcoming upgrade. The gear set in the new steez is the same as the one he's comparing it to if I remember correctly.

What people don't seem to understand is that this is not a "new steez". It's an LTD version of the current Steez SVTW. What they did /w this reel is exactly what they did /w the previous LTD version of the steez in 2014 and other LTD variants....a reflective paint job and a new spool. This is always the case on all LTD versions of Daiwa reels. There's sometimes a handle/knob variation but not too often.

The Zillion and the Alphas that just came out are actually new variants /w the Zillion being a completely redesigned reel.

Ya kinda like what shimano does with the scorpions and curados.

The scorpion is a JDM only reel while the curado is a USDM reel. The scorpion has always been alittle nicer than the curados.

Good call out, totally forgot about the MM gearing.

Its crazy how much of a difference it makes. I had both side by side, granted the first gen 70 was used but was just serviced and you can really notice the different in gears.

I agree. The original Curado 70 and the MGL 70 are nothing alike to me. I had two original 70 reels, and thought they felt rough, and had too small of a handle. The MGL with the new spool, gears, and handle feels fantastic to me. It's such a better caster too.

I’m a big believer in the mgl spool man, not only for lighter lures. Just in general it makes casting so much easier.

I don't know which is worse, the 90 second commercial or watching someone pick pubes out of their reel.

Also a fantastic video

This guy is just being captain click bait. The video producer makes countless youtube comments about views/what views are worth/etc. Anybody /w half a brain knew what exactly the steez LTD was and what any LTD daiwa reel is. I understand he's trying to get views for $ but taking the majority of his advice, casting reel wise, should be taken /w a grain of salt.

Calm down, this isn't tackle tour forums. I personally enjoy the in depth breakdown of the reels and think the video was good. I guess I dont have half a brain because I'm not a diawa user. I was excited to hear about a new high end reel and was thankful for the video. I ended spending my money on zillions and CTs. I'm not sure why there is any reason to be nasty.

It wasn’t intended to be. It was directed at the video.  He knew what he was doing and it was a bit disingenuous how we went about doing it.

For reference, any LTD daiwa reel you see isnt New. It’s always a current real with either a mirror or paint scheme difference, a new spool, and sometimes a handle/knobs/gear ratio. IE damiki LTD, steez LTD ‘14

I think you need to broaden your understanding of criticism.  It's a click bait, plain and simple.  This guy is entertainment.  It reminds me of the reviews on Test Kitchen.  They picked Skippy over Jif, therefore they are dumb.

At least it's clear that Daiwa and Shimano are trying to sell reels.

This makes no sense. The bias here is comical.
