Leatherneck Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 For fishing the Boreal Shield type lakes from Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ontario which have clear-ish tea stained waters - what color of Mono line would you pick? 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Clear only for me. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 I would say clear but would prefer FC for that type of water. Quote
PourMyOwn Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I'm in NH, I know that water fairly well. I use both and haven't noticed a difference. Mccoy mean green and clear Silver Thread, both of similar diameters. 4 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 I use Berkley Big Game in green, steel blue, & coastal brown. Why: because at certain times of the year the water clarity changes & one of those colors makes it easier for me to see the line. 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 I use clear or green except on my worm rod which gets spooled with clear blue fluorescent . Green blends in with the greenish water in my area which makes it almost invisible to my eyes , when trying to watch the line . 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 I fish green mono the most, but also use clear at times. 1 Quote

Cloudy days it's harder for me to see clear, but I'm not sure if either line color effects the fishing. 1 Quote

Either way, at this point, it's just a confidence thing for me. 8, 10, 12 lb topwater & jerkbaits. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Line color is only important to aid your ability to see it above the water. We are all different in our ability to see line, line doesn’t affect the bass as far as I can determine. We use to soak mono line in coffee thinking the light brown color was an advantage using live bait. Green, clear, blue, pink, brown all seem to work equally regarding catch rates. Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon is the perfect color to match the op’s water coloration. I really like this line. Tom 2 Quote

OnthePotomac Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Since the tidal Potomac is consistent......murky that is, Green for me always. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Most of my rigs it's either clear or green. For finesse rigs, however, I go with a bright color mainline for visual reference, with a clear or green leader. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Clear or green. I was using green more than ever in 2020. Clear Big Game was sold out in my area. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 For the last few months, I've been using Sufix Camo Elite mono. Very supple line, it also blends in really well in the slightly tea green stained water I fish pretty often. I did use in clear water twice, and had good results. This s now my go to mono line. Quote
GReb Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I only use green mono. Since fluorocarbon is clear It allows me to easily remember what I have on each reel Quote
GTN-NY Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I always used/liked trilene clear/blue fluorescent but I guess they no longer make it Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Green for me. Although I started fishing clear and caught just as many fish back then ...so whatever ? Quote

No - they don't have an XL or XT style - but I did use Stren 10# Clr/Blue Fluorescent last year and it seemed limp enough. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted January 10, 2021 Super User Posted January 10, 2021 A lot of places I fish have clear tea colored water and I do well with clear mono. Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted January 10, 2021 Super User Posted January 10, 2021 Berkley Big Game clear or Green Quote
