zeth Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Ok I am thinking 1 of 3 for bombing 3/8-1/2oz maybe 3/4 oz crankbaits. I have only build one other casting rod and one other spinning. The casting was a Judge Crankbait rod which is amazing! I can jack them smallies on 10xd's and power crank em in to the boat and flip em in. they don't get off. In case it matters, I crank with braid to fluoro leader and that will not change because it has always worked great for me. I don't want to spend another 150+ for a blank. So I am looking at the three following blanks: Rod Geeks SG79MM AT Bushido CB78/8-15 MHX CB903-Blend I am guessing the Rod geeks may be the closest to the judge. the judge seems to be about 50% s-glass 50% carbon. I dont know the exact portions but that is what it appears to be to me. Anyone with any experience with these let me know your thoughts. Thanks. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Having built several MHX blend blanks, I can say they are great for the price. You will not be disappointed with one of them. But, if braid and boat flipping fish are part of the game, you do not want a 3 power blank. Get a 6 or a 7. Also built several Bushidos. Top of my best bang for the buck list. They fish lighter than their ratings suggest. no experience with rodgeeks. 1 Quote
zeth Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 Thanks to the dude above. Ok so I decided on which blank to build on. Sort of. I decided to buy two blanks. A little nervous about this since they are lower cost. I really want to try the MHX and the Bushido too. Maybe those will be next since I want to build a couple new squarebill rods and get rid of my KVD squarebill rods which I can not stand. Micro guides and short rear grips are not my thing I've come to learn. Gary_Snyder Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 The Judge looks amazing on paper............. similar specs to an all-glass blank but noticeably lighter. Seems unbelievable. Let me know if you find something better, I'd be interested. Quote
