Dashipa Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I have a Daiwa SV TW that I have been using and find that it lacks in distance for bank fishing. Which Daiwa reel can get killer distance like a Shimano Curado K or Metanium MGL. I have both of these reels but the Daiwa is lighter and just feels better in my hands ? Looking forward to your suggestions! Mike Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 Well if you can find a Tatula or Zillion HLC reel, those are going to be a winner for distance. The Tatula Elite is probably the best widely available model for distance, but the Tatula 100 (same frame as the Elite) or 150 or even CT will get you a little more distance than a SV. If you have the money to spend and are using 10 or 12lb line or thinner, the Aldebaran MGL 50 might be worth a serious look as well they are really light and smaller than the Metanium MGL 150s and I say this as a pretty diehard Daiwa user. Super User iabass8 Posted January 9, 2021 Super User Posted January 9, 2021 clean the spool bearings to open up the reel. they come overly lubricated. If you just want another reel, the Elite Long cast is the same concept as the prior HLC and is meant for, obviously, long casting and is the same frame as the current tatula sv. Quote

Is there a video on how to do this? Are there any special tools required? Quote

Yes, there's videos all over youtube on how to do it. The tatula has a spool bearing in the side plate and then a second spool bearing that is only accessible by removing the handle side plate below the CC knob. It's very simple to get to both of them. Dashipa Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 Picked up the Tatula Elite 6.3 last night at Bass Pro and caught this little guy today on a C77 Cordell Big O. Man does this thing cast! The Big O weighs in at just a tad over 1/4 at .288 on my scale. The Elite was able to throw something this small almost 40yds......with minimal effort!!!! Sweeeeeeet....Daiwa rocks ? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 10, 2021 Super User Posted January 10, 2021 When it come to distance in the Daiwa line up, I have the Steez SV TWS and it does cast pretty far but my Shimano Antares 70A cast the farthest out of any reel I have used. All of this depends on what rod and what lure you're using. Also, I have come to the conclusion that casting distance doesn't always equal out to making one reel better than another. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted January 10, 2021 Super User Posted January 10, 2021 I have just about all of the SV Daiwa reels - but picked up 3 Elites in the past year to help me get more distance on higher profile/light lures like buzz baits, jerk baits, etc. I have struggled at times adjusting to them because they cast so far. After fishing SV's all day and picking up the Elite, I have launched some buzz baits well into the upper deck on shore. Seriously, it launches... 2 Quote
