Japan typically uses "bfs" to delineate between a light or ultra light trout rod and bass rod. These rods also typically live within a family of normal bass rods. There will be "normal" powers as well as a bfs line with light and ultra light powers. Zodias, expride, benkai, days, rebellion and many many more bass rods all offer a L or UL or both in there Japanese versions it is so common. Not so much in the states but some bands are starting to offer bfs like rods too. That's what I though before, but even for a bass rod, it's diameter is very high. Let me show you an example. Below is the Rapala Gold 8lbs, a very famous ''bass'' rod here o Brazil. I'm not arguing about ultrafinesse being only Trout-BFS rods, but a ultrafinesse rod having the same diameter as a shimano SLX, a rod with a very cheap im6/24ton blank. Quote

It looks pretty standard for a bass rod to me. At least compared a trout or panfish rod. Quote
waymont Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 The Phenix Feather L and ML casting rods have a thickness of a “normal “ bass rod, but great light powers and great tapers. 1 Quote

Just saw it. That's what a call a very thick rod. I noted this is a trend on US scene bass. In easter I landed a 110-pounder Araipama, with a brazilian brand rod and every single bass bubba friend of mine, got astonished by the rod low thickness. Thicker blanks overall are just cheaper, cost-effective. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 8, 2022 Super User Posted June 8, 2022 Have one and so far (50+ fish) it's been pretty amazing. I have been actually surprised at how good it is. I was able to get 25% off but I would say it is well worth the money at the regular price. I will give it a real test in a tournament at the end of the month. 2 Quote
