I recently got the Nasci 3000 for one of my extra rods as it has more line capacity than the 2500 but is otherwise identical in shape and size (according to what I’ve read, correct me if I’m wrong.)

Upon receiving it, I noticed the reel handle is different. Rather than the lateral rubber grip it has a vertical paddle that is just not nearly as ergonomic. Is it possible to swap it out and would it be difficult to get the part from Shimano or elsewhere?

You can just unscrew the handles and swap them. Or if you want you can just unscrew the knob. Just get a pick tool and pip off the knob end cap and using a small philips screw driver unscrew the screw. Keep track of the shims and bushing that come out, you'll need to reuse them.

But where can I get a second 2500 knob/handle?

Shimano A / Daiwa S knobs are common, and easy to swap out.

They're all the same up to about 3000/5000 size,

then they go to larger Shimano B / Daiwa L.

You should be able to swap the handles, ebay might be a place to look for them.  But swapping handles between sizes, you'll probably get a different handle pitch (length).

You can order parts from Japan (Plat), but before going to that trouble, it's probably much cheaper to find a knob you like and swap that.

Call Shimano directly, they should be able to hook you up with the knob.

You think it’s better to swap the entire handle or just the knob? Would the knob/handle of a 2500 fit a 3000?

yes, the knobs will absolutely swap.  A longer handle has the effect of slowing the reel down and increasing winding torque.  My light reels are going after redfish, so I usually like this, and tune all my reel handles.

How much more line capacity am I getting with the 3000 over 2500, and will I notice a difference in smoothness/feel? Wondering if 2500 isn’t better suited for my creek smallie fishing and if I shouldn’t just stick with that if I’ve been happy with it.

The 2500 and 3000 usually have the same handle length. Probably around 55mm long. Usually only the knobs are different.

I believe the single barrel type knob from shimano only runs around $2 or so. Remember to get the knob cap also.

Might be a riveted knob. The model it replaced (Symetre) had one.
