I might be interested in a Tatula 150. Maybe, and maybe not. I'd like info from people that have them and use them a lot for me to really decide. I'd use it on a H/M or H/F rod.

   1) Any reliability issues? Any noise?

   2) Does it seem "strong" if you retrieve heavy (like 1 oz.) spinnerbaits?

   3) How does it do with braid? I'll be using 65 lb. braid, of undetermined brand, for frogging. Any problems with braid and that TWS system?

I'm kinda leery of Daiwa baitcasters, especially those with the TWS system. To me, it's like it's a "solution in search of a problem", to quote a remark made by a member of this site. I also wonder about the integrity of the TriWing mechanism if I'd pull in a 3 lb. bass with 5 lb. of weeds attached. I don't know how strong it would be under those circumstances.

On the other hand, this reel fits perfectly between my Curado 200i and my TranX 300a. I would really like it to work great and be reliable. If it's a great reel, and my fears are unfounded, I think the people here are the best and most reliable way for me to find that out.

   As always ........ Thnx.     jj

Mine got the ACE grease treatment on the gears and grease and oil in other spots right off the bat and has been just fine. Don't forget the spool bearings. Mine's mostly been on wake bait duty, up to 2.5 oz. No issues. Feels solid. Strong.

It's bigger than a Fuego CT, or Tatula CT. If you have stumpy mitts, or object to wider reels, you should feel one first. Doesn't bother me in the least, but I loves me some Daiwas, so maybe I just don't focus on it.

If there's one area where the T-Wing makes the most sense, on paper as well in the real world, is with heavier line. You can feel it fighting through typical line guides on the cast with heavy braid and lower quality and less than smooth heavy mono like Big Game. Where the distance between the center line of the spool and the inside face of the line guide aperture is greater on reels with typical line guides, this issue is diminished to a small degree. However, line guide positioning and shape cannot and does not match a very wide aperture even if it's centered before the cast. The T-Wing doesn't seem to add much with nlyon line under .015, but with 50 lb and up braid and thick mono it does.

I haven't heard much on the web about T-Wing failures. DVT makes a valid point that they add a layer of difficulty during reassembly that he could live without. Other than that, no problems AFAIK.

Haven't tossed any 2 oz baits on my 150, the 200 has that duty. I've thrown 1 oz baits on my 150, and have had 0 issues. Reel is smooth, no geary stuff, I did add a drop of oil to the spool bearings, like I do on all my new reels.

As for the Twing, I like it. The 17 lb mono goes through it very easy. I also have some 100's and 200 reels, all perform well.

I use a little 100 as my frogging reel, because I had it around. 65lb braid, I'm not gentle at all with it, and not afraid of a full-body hookset. Running the same way it did as I took it out of the box, but for greasing the gears and adding a drop of oil to the bearings. Seems like most of the new reels from daiwa come a little dry. I tell you think because a 100 would likely fall apart before a 150.

I use a 150 as a smaller swimbait reel, mostly around 2-3oz on a 8' rod with 22lb Defier Armilo. No issues at all.

The T-wing isn't really a load-bearing portion of the reel, so I can't see how heavy load could affect it.

Related - there are lots of great reviews about the coastal 150 on BR. Might look at that too, one would think an inshore reel would be even more 'tanky' but it might just be a different spool and sealed bearings.

I love the Tatula 150! I throw 6.8" Keitech and beast hook (about 1.5oz), R2S 168 (about 1.5oz), and chatter baits with it. Three years in, and it's as smooth as day one. Regular maintenance only, and it's solid. Casts really easily, and far.

I have 2 150's and they've both been great for the couple seasons I've used them. I haven't used them with braid but almost all my baitcasters are T wing Daiwas and they've been used with braid up to 65lb with no issues. My frogging reel is 100 Tatula 8.1 and it does great. The line doesn't run on the "wing", during the retrieve, not really sure what the concern with braid would be other than if you're running long leaders that are going inside the reel.

I've thrown big cranks (8.0 size), and 1oz spinnerbaits with them as well as some smaller swimbaits and had no issues.

I haven't thrown anything heavier than a 3/4oz jig + trailer or a hollow body frog on mine, but I've had no issue, or with any of my other Daiwas that I've thrown the same lures on. But out of all of my Tatulas, the 150 is the one that I would use for heavier lures, it feels like it was made for them.

I bought one earlier this spring and strapped it to a tatula heavy rod for jigging. I can only compare it to the tatula ct as those are the baitcasters that I own. Although both are great and feel solid the 150 definitely feels a bit more solid to me. I ended up buying another one that I will use for frogging as well as 2 more ct's this christmas.

I have a 150 w/ 50 lb braid on a Kistler KLX 7'3" H/Mod Fast, and it's my frog rig.  I can bomb cast a frog and I've never had issues getting fish out of cover.

I'm going to get slammed for this, but I think the Tatula 150 is every bit of the reel that the Curado K is said to be. It's a tank! $20 cheaper. It's a hidden gem. I love throwing jointed swimbaits with it.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could ship a reel for 99 cents?  I would let anyone try my stuff out, even jimmyjoe.??

Dang ..... that would be NICE of you!   ?     jj

The Tatula is plenty well built for the application you mention including the level wind. Don’t misconstrue my comments about the gimmickyness (new word) of the Twing with it’s durability or suitability.

Don't worry. In this new world, "gimmickyness" is a VERY handy word!   ?    jj

TWS is reliable. The "Tat" must be one of the biggest sellers for Daiwa. I purchased mine when they first came out. Amazing to see how it's been adopted as one of the best for the dollar reels. I use mine as a "travel reel". I wanted a reel that was in the "if something happens while I'm on vacation, on the plane, in hotels, on the boat" where I wouldn't be too bummed out. But it had to be as good as the Zillions and Ryogas that I'm used to using with my local shore fishing.

And it does that. Beautifully!

Now I have it all tricked out with high end hybrid bearings from Hedgehog Studio, cork knobs, and 153 size Mag Force Z spool. (It started out as an HD 200. Hi cap spool w/o Mag Z. That spool was difficult to control). Now it's worth as much as my Zillions with the upgrades! But, gosh I'm just nuts about it. I just hope it doesn't fall overboard!
