Chet C Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 been looking on amazon for fishing glasses, there seems to be a large color selection, is there a preference lens color for fishing. been looking at the SUNGAIT Classic Half Frame Retro Sunglasses with Polarized Lens any comments chet Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 6, 2021 Super User Posted January 6, 2021 Low light - early morning, late evening or dense clouds - Amber Bright - I have a preference for Gray, but Green is another good choice. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted January 6, 2021 Super User Posted January 6, 2021 BTW - if you're on the water, reflected light can be wicked. If you decide on a style that isn't wrap-around, use temple blockers, sunglasses being about safety just as much as convenience. ? jj Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted January 6, 2021 Super User Posted January 6, 2021 On the water, amber/copper... on the road, grey. 3 Quote

Miabucman Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 @garroyo130 Thanks for the chart! I like the copper and silver gray, depending on light levels. Quote

Junk Fisherman Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Everyday use/driving is copper. I have green mirror for fishing in bright sunlight in very clear water. I just picked up a pair of the sunrise silver for lowlight conditions. I haven't wore them on the water yet but they are very crisp on the cloudy days I have used them on. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 My eye surgeon pushed me to wear brown/amber lense. I only have one eye, so Cocoons doe the job well. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 12, 2021 Super User Posted January 12, 2021 I have come to the conclusion on sunglass that you want to do two things...... increase contrast and cut down on glare. So blue mirror for bright open water and brown/copper for early morning or overcast days. Quote
Super User gim Posted January 12, 2021 Super User Posted January 12, 2021 I've got the green mirror costas (copper base) and they seem to be a good color for middle ground in most conditions. I think the blue mirror would be better in ultra bright conditions but I can't afford to just keep buying costas for every condition out there. My only regret is not buying a pair of these things years ago. Not sure what I was thinking using a new cheap $25 pair every season for the last decade... Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 12, 2021 Super User Posted January 12, 2021 I always had gray. Last year I got new glasses in amber. Wish that I'd gotten gray. Most of the time I don't notice. The once in a while that I think about it....I wish I'd stuck with gray. Quote

I used to buy 1-2 pairs of cheap glasses a year. Last year I broke down and bought a $175 pair bronze/copper Oakley’s. Never going back to cheap ones again. I’d like a pair of blue ones as there are a lot of gin clear lakes in norther Michigan. 1 Quote
Lead Head Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I like the green mirrored (copper based) costas. I own a pair of grey based, but far prefer the copper. To me, they are superior in low light, overcast weather, and stained water. They are close enough to equal in bright sun that I never bother to change, and almost all of my water is stained (if not down right muddy) anyway. I try to be a frugal fisherman, but after nearly 20 years of working nights the sun is hard on my eyes. I don't skimp out on sunglasses. 1 1 Quote

I think they put out a quality product. I got tired of the fit over situation. I have to wear prescription lenses and just went for prescription fishing sunglasses with progressive built into them and everything has been great. Experimentation with different colors led me to brown/amber. Suits my needs in all light conditions while fishing. And found they enhance target colors while shooting sporting clays also. But I believe site and lenses color is a to each his own thing and what works out for each can be different. I wish I had 20/20. Options are endless. Quote

kayaking_kev Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I have a chance to get a new pair a Costa Glass Lens Blue Mirror glasses for under $100, and I don't that's the color I would choose, but it's the only color available. I spend half my time fishing in skinny rivers with pretty brownish water most of the time and a depth of only a few feet, so they probably wouldn't be the best fit there. But, I do spend the other half fishing the many local above ground reservoirs that provide drinking water to my City, but the water tint is usually somewhat greenish. I'm wondering what you guys think? Buy or Pass? Quote
K1500 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I chose the blue mirror on purpose. I don’t think it makes a huge difference relative to the other ‘dark’ colors. 1 Quote

I couldn't pass up the glass lenses at that price, but it took me until two minutes before the deal expired before I finally pulled the trigger. They will at least help me in all this snow we've been getting. If I like them, I'll just get the Amber color sometime in the future, thanks for your reply. Quote
K1500 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 I’m guessing you will love them. The 580g in blue mirror are great, and at that price you did good. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 These are my colors: I have Costas in the green and yellow and they are fantastic. Overpriced but excellent. Green mirror for bright skies and crazy clear water Amber for everyday use Yellow (Sunrise Silver)- cloudy days and low light Quote

That doesn’t need to mean hundreds of dollars, just a manufacturer with “skin in the game.” (maybe SUNGAIT is legit; I don’t know) UV protection is the most important function of sunglasses and though all sunglasses should perform fine in this area, I wouldn’t risk my eyes to a knock-off where short cuts may have been taken in lens manufacturing or QC. Wearing tinted glasses that don’t block UV would be disastrous for your eyes, far worse than wearing no sunglasses at all. The risk is probably minimal but it's not one that I would take. Quote
