Hello!

Happy New Year everyone

Quick question. I have been researching some new trailers, specifically for the Jack Hammer Stealth blade since the Zako is a little big and found The Hook Up Tackle had a great YT video on them. They recommended the following:

  • OSP DoLive Stick Spec II 3.5
  • Deps Death Adder 4
  • OSP - Action Trailer

Anyone have any experience with either of these trailers or soft plastics? I want to get a few but they are a little pricey around $9-$10 a pack just to try. I also do not have anywhere around me that sells these so I cant even see them in person.

Thanks!

No experience with the Deps baits.

I have and been fishing the OSP baits for a while.

Initially came across them when I purchased this bait as they came with them.

https://osp-lures.com/product/o-s-p-blade-jig/

It is the first clear bladed vibrating jig I'd seen at the time and was at least

3 years before the Z-Man offering.

This one is even smaller that the Z-Man bait and the Action Trailer matches it well.

So it's a fairly small trailer.

Would be good for the Clear Bladed Z-Man bait as well IMO.

As for the 'action' of the Action trailer; it's decent but nothing special.

Some thin appendages that will do what the bait tells it to,

(which isn't a whole lot), as well as move on the fall.  Not always a bad thing.

If you're looking for something similar in the domestic

market, the Culprit Incredi Slim is almost the same bait ( it's a bit bigger and has a few more appendages) Is priced right, fairly durable and might be easier to get.

Most importantly, it will ride nicely on that some what down-sized Clear Bladed Z-Man bait.

Finally, I'd be interested hearing about your results with this new Z-Man bait.

I threw it around quite a bit this past season without much to show for it.

Although most of my season was a dumpster fire anyway so take that for what it's worth.

Thanks for the info! I will have to check those out

I didnt get the Stealth Blade until late fall. I think maybe 2 or 3 short outings was about the only use it got, along with other lures. It actually preformed rather well, I like the small profile, it pulled through some grassy/muck pretty easily. Also it was the only thing that got a few bites after 3-4 hours of nothing. Even outperformed my lipless which was very effective in the fall  Excited to see how it does in the Spring, I think the smaller profile will be beneficial in my area.

This pic is from Nov 28th, was nice day in the 50s but water was most likely in the low 40s. Used a zako but it seemed to actually run better without it on, mainly because it was too big. I should of cut it down further. This was the biggest of 3 within an hour of me throwing it. They really hit it hard too.

Not to Hijack the thread but have you had decent success with the clear blade bladed jigs?

I stated throwing a vibrating jig a few years ago - struggled to get bites at first.

That OSP bait I posted with the clear blade was the first one I got some fish on.

And that may have been a more a product of where & when I was throwing and not what.

Been throwing several different models of many brands since then.

The Reg & Tungsten Jackhammer are for me, FAR & AWAY the top produces.

The clear blade baits, including the new Z-Man bait, seem decent but I have not discovered the secret sauce with them yet.

No experience with any of those trailers. Have you tried the Hog Farmer Spunk Shad (3.5)?

I got the Stealth Blade late in the year, so I haven't had much time to play around with it. I did manage one LM and one white bass on it. Probably would've gotten more but I saw them busting on the surface so I just had to throw a topwater on. ;)  I do like how it has a more subtle vibration compared to the regular Jackhammer. Something different for tougher conditions.

This looks really similar to the DEPS Death Added, thanks for the link, may give this a shot first!

What trailers were you using on the Stealth Blade?

The trailer I was using on both those catches was a Z Craw Jr.

Here’s another one to consider if you’re looking for a bulkier profile, but similar action to the hog farmer. Has scent infused. Got it too late in the fall to play with it much, but reviews were good.

Just for looks-purposes, here's a comparison of the Hog Farmer Spunk Shad (4.5) and the 10,000 Fish Yoto Worm (4.75) on the Stealth Blade. They both weigh exactly the same. I do think the Spunk Shad in 3.5 would be better on the Stealth Blade and the 4.5 on regular bladed jigs.

So far my experience with the stealth blade is that it really is a finesse chatterbait. Much smaller presence in the water. little fish will bite it too, ned rig style. Biggest on it is a little over 5.

I haven't fished it much in GP though, just some white-ish colors, or white/gp looking where I know shad is a big food source.

Edit: good enough results that I have at least two in each of the weights and across four colors.

Ordered a pack of these from The Hook Up Tackle and just got them yesterday. Obviously I haven't used them yet since there's ice on my lakes, but I think this little bait will work great as a trailer on the Stealth Blade, especially in clear(er) water situations.

They also have a smell to them. Wooowee! In a good way tho. I think they'll do great as a drop shot bait as well. Here's a few pics I took for ya.

If you want the zako profile and action in a smaller size you need to check out the AFG force by AZ custom Baits.  The 4" has a little more mass then the Zako, but they make 3" thats perfect for CBs and smaller swimbaits.  They arent cheap, but you get what you pay for.  Theyre hand poured with high quality plastic.

I would recommend the Spunk Shad as well if you want a straight tail trailer.

The V and M Wild Shad is a shorter boot tailed swimbait with a big profile.  If you want a smaller profile boot tail the Yamamoto Swimbait is a little longer but has a much smaller profile.
