DMetzler235 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Hey y'all! I'm looking for some expert advice. We have a man-made pond on our farm and we are hoping to drain, reshape, and lay stone, but were hoping to keep the healthy bass/bluegill/fish population that is there. Any advice on how to do that? Super User MN Fisher Posted January 5, 2021 Super User Posted January 5, 2021 Talk to your state's Department of Natural Resources/Department of Fish and Game - they're the best ones to give you help. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted January 6, 2021 Super User Posted January 6, 2021 The fish in the pond will need to be relocated to another body of water that is similar in size, or the fish will need to be spread out over several ponds. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted January 6, 2021 Is there any way to build a smaller holding pond below the current pond so when it's drained the water will run into it and fish could be transported to it? That's the only thing I can think to do. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted January 6, 2021 After a little more thought it would be easier to just restart the population than to save the current one 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 6, 2021 Super User Posted January 6, 2021 Of course what he does is all dependent on one thing - what his state's regs say about transplanting fish. That's why I suggested contacting the state. Quote
