GReb Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 I’ve now put in some time with the Elite. I bought it with the intention of throwing squarebills but it just didn’t feel right. I couldn’t find a good balance between too much brake and blowing up and was losing a lot of distance from the Tatula 100 I was supposedly upgrading from. So I made some changes and put it on one of my chatterbait/spinnerbait rods and it came alive. I have a Coastal SV on the same rod and both perform about the same which is a good thing. For me the Coastal and Elite just perform better in the 1/2-3/4 oz range. I since put the new Metanium on the squarebill rod and couldn’t be happier. Man what a sweet reel. Reel experimenting is fun Quote
lynxcat Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Long time fan of the Tatula Elite but I just picked up two Tatula 100s for $77/reel on an Academy sale right now. 50% off was too good to pass up...will report back on the nuances I see between the models. These are replacing 10 year old JM Platinum reels so I'm thinking these have to be an upgrade Quote

'Blem' to me means a cosmetic defect. My reel's 'Blem' is internal and makes the reel completely unusable without first sending it to a reel specialist to find out what is wrong. I could have returned it and paid full price for a new reel without a 'Blem'. No thanks. Same goes for casting from a Kayak or sitting in a Jon boat. Repetition over time calibrates your stroke to the seated position which is different from casting while standing. Very true. I have several brands of reels and go from one to another without much trouble...with a caveat or two. 1. Don't go too light of a lure for the rod, and 2. I can't bomb a couple different ones until I've made a few casts with them to (unconsciously) get back tuned into using them. I change reels without thinking about needing to make any casting adjustments. When I visit Florida, I am fishing from a canoe. At home I am standing or sitting where my casting stoke is very seldom limited. It is on the boat and takes awhile for me to adjust. Usually the reels also need some minor adjustments. Even my Curado 200E7 did. The only reel that I never had to make any adjustments to when I took it to Florida was my Pinnacle Primmus. (Well...not the Exsence DC either as long as I didn't go below Max on the brake setting. The other 3 options never caused a problem.) That type of cast will blow up a Daiwa in an instant. But as far as I can tell, SVS Infinity can be somewhat touchy here too. ....Quantum gets little love here, but the ACS 4.0 system allows me to really lay into the cast but get fantastic distance too. It's a more tolerant system that compensates for the added friction by using a taller 36 mm spool. It accomplishes the trick of applying braking that allows for an imperfect hard cast then backs off enough to let it fly. They're all manageable once you get a feel for each type, but what your preference will be is up to you in the end. If you're able to analyze what happens when things go wrong, then visualize your errors and make corrections to your casting mechanics, then you can fish with anything. Some people do this instinctively and some people need to think about it and have mental breakthroughs. It's a lot like swinging a golf club, but with an extra level of complication due to the calibration of the reel's overall behavior. Been there, done that. So far I have only used one of my 3 Shimano reels with SVS Infinity, and I found it touchier to get set up than my 'A', 'B', & 'E' series reels. Thanks to your posts I now own several Quantums. Thanks to life (and health issues) I don't think I've fished one yet. All purchased on closeout. Two of them sitting downstairs are for a brother and his wife....if I ever make the trip north. Quote
Blaine Donders Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 The only Daiwa I own I’ve had issues with , the anti reverse bearing, is an Elite. I have the Elite P/F, the Elite, 6 SV’s and 4 100’s. Get a 6 speed and a 7 speed 100 and spend the rest in rods. Quote
