Thirtysilver Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Hello every, I am retuning to fishing and I am looking for some budget $100-150 range for rod and pole. My species I seek is of course bass and trout. I am in Northern Nevada -- Carson City area. Anything you can come up with would be greatly appreciated. I prefer amazon but it seems like they're out of a lot of stuff. Thank you Quote

There's a lot out there that's in that price range - a couple of my rigs last year and the year before would comfortably sit in there. 1 Quote

Never used baitcaster and don't want my only rod to be misused by myself. Techniques, I am not sure of; I was a very basic fisherman. I was 25 last time I fished just flipping out a yellow maggot on a UL. I never even learned to tie a real knot till recently lol. I'm not sure how people fish here. I know there's a ton of trout and little bit of bass. I LOVE bass and like trouting. Sorry if I seem so ignorant, I kind of am atm, trying to learn as I go. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 5, 2021 Super User Posted January 5, 2021 So a rig that can be used for both. Here's my suggestion for your budget - others may have other ideas I'd say a 2500 size reel on a Medium power/Fast action rod. This will let you toss wacky rigs, shakey heads, light T-Rigs, light jigs, finesse jigs, and light spinnerbaits. Reel: Diawa Legalis or Shimano Sedona - both get good reps here - $70 Rod: Diawa Procyon 6'8" medium/fast or 7'0" medium/extra-fast - $80 8#-10# test line - Sufix Advance Mono is a good pick 6 1 Quote

Oh - you can add jerkbaits and crankbaits (both 9/16oz or under) to those techniques as well. Medium power spinning is a 'do alot' rig like medium-heavy is to baitcasters...not 'do it all' - there's nothing than can do that. Read/watch videos here or on YouTube about those techniques...lots of good learning to be had. Quote

The rod I found was 6.6. IS that where most of everyone here shops? Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 There are many options for purchasing tackle online. Make sure the seller ships in a quality rod tube. Nothing worse than waiting for your rod to arrive and finding a missing guide, broken tip or shattered blank. Also want to be sure they have a reputable return policy in case the carrier is less than gentle with the item. Quote

I've stopped getting gear at Amazon due to lack of variety. Legalis: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DAIWARELLS.html?from=basres Sedona: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-SHIMNOREEL.html?from=basres Remember - the 2500 size Rod: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Procyon_Spinning_Rods/descpage-PYS.html 6'8" Medium or 7'0" Medium 1 Quote

GTN-NY Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 I just got a ML 7’ St Croix that’s on sale right now. They also have a M 7’ $70 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-STCROIXRODS.html?from=basres I’ve seen here a lot talk up this Diawa Regal reel. 2500 is out of stock but a 3000 is in and not much bigger https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DAIWARELLS.html?from=basres Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 5, 2021 Super User Posted January 5, 2021 I'm not a fan of the St Croix rods - they run lighter than others. 5/8oz max rating vs 3/4oz for the Procyon - reduces the range of lures he can toss. Quote
GTN-NY Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Thirtysilver if you think you want to wait for stuff that is in stock before you order I’d recommend that you buy a TW gift certificate before Fri. They are 10% off right now. Any dollar you can save you’re going to need if you hang around here lol https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/giftcards.html 2 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 5, 2021 Super User Posted January 5, 2021 I have a Daiwa Procyon PCYN661MXS rod with a Shimano Sienna 2500 reel. Nice rig for what would suit you. Also have a Daiwa Revros LT2500, which I better. I think you can get them off Amazon for $49.99. 2 1 Quote

Tom I have yet to fish up here. Last time I fished I was in California 20+ years ago when it comes to Bass. I miss it. 2 hours ago, BrianMDTX said: I have a Daiwa Procyon PCYN661MXS rod with a Shimano Sienna 2500 reel. Nice rig for what would suit you. Also have a Daiwa Revros LT2500, which I better. These the right ones? ty Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 5, 2021 Super User Posted January 5, 2021 That’s the ones. The Revros is a great reel for the $$, and I was pleasantly surprised at the sensitivity of the Procyon. It’s a nice finesse rig. Start off with some 6 or 8 lb mono for easing back into fishing without any hassles. Quote
