Ok folks I have noticed that the closet I have set up right now is getting over run by my tackle!  I would like to turn one room in my basement into my tackle room.  My question is for you folks that have a room dedicated for tackle storage, could you show some pictures of how you store tackle?  Like shelves, rod racks built to the existing walls(rods vertical) preferably?  Would like to build all the storage shelves and things myself, just wanting ideas of how you set up your areas.

What I use in a larger closet are wire shelves with a high load capacity for tackle. It is surprising how much plastics weigh. For rods I have a vertical spinny rod holder, but it wouldn't work with reels on most of the rods, a couple is ok. I use the 5 drawer desk high rubbermaid type drawer things for stuff like reels and smaller items that can't sit out on a shelf.

The wire shelves are like what would be used in a pantry. Bookshelves las only so long before the weight warps the boards.

3700 size boxes fit perfectly in a filing cabinet. I have three that I got for free that hold all my boxes, bulk spools of line, and they take up very little space

I'm cramped for space, so it's a 'fun' time fitting my gear in

Sterilite Plastic utility shelf - holds my 4 tackle bags with the boxes inside - 1.75 shelves

Sterilite storage bins - 6qt - holds extra plastics (I've got bags of dupes), miscellaneous items - stacked on the .25 shelf left from bags

Rods - in the corner of the room, upright

Reels/Line - drawers in an Iris 6-drawer rolling cart (4 drawers)

That is what I have at this time is a wire shelving unit, it works fine.  The floor in the basement has uneven floor in places so thinking I may want to build shelves that attach to wall so no chance of them toppling.

That isn't a bad idea!  Thanks will keep this in mind!

We have used these in our basement and they work great. We have been using the same brackets and boards for over 20 years and they have moved with us to a third house lol. The height works with the standard storage totes, believe they are the 18 gallon ones, they sell.

Get yourself some peg boards and hooks. Good way of organizing stuff and seeing what you have in stock.

I like the storage tote and 3700 box route, so my wife doesn't shut down the credit card on me;) The peg board would end me up in bait monkey counseling lol.

My root cellar is mostly shelves and floor rod racks for rods.   There's a few hooks for PFDs, raingear, waders, etc. as well.

Did a little re-org - my fishing stuff shares space with my scale modeling stuff.

Pic of 'work corner' with labels - work bench to the left...pics of stuff I've posted on a white background were taken on the bench.

The room itself is 7'x11' - Winter fishing gear storage, scale modeling, my computer desk and another bookcase pretty much fill it.

I think I figured out what I want to do for my fishing room and storage.  Thanks everyone for all of your input and ideas!  I will hopefully get started on it this weekend, I will also try to post pictures here when it is all finished!  Thanks again!!!!

I purchased two large metal storage cabinets for my garage to store my baits.

I then purchased 20 plastic bins from JoAnne's Fabrics to put on the first storage cabinet's metal shelves for my plastics and use my tackle boxes in the other one for moving/treble hook baits.

The cabinet doors are kept shut by magnets and the baits are secured from any vermin or reptiles that enter my garage.

Seeing this I understand our different opinions on conserving plastics. I have a little more back stock than you to fall back on.

I bet my plastics inventory is similar to yours.  I use three 30 gal. totes to store the "miscellaneous debris" that isn't in regular rotation.  They fit on the floor under the shelves.  There's baits that are pushing a decade old now.  I go into them every few trips for something different.

I do have a little backstock - 1/3 filled 6qt container on the shelf above the 'Scale Modeling' drawer units on the plastic shelving.

I have one 6 and a couple of 10 quart boxes full. One is mostly menace baits with a few other brands of similar styles. I have bought in bulk over the years on baits that work when on sale. That works until I find the next hot bait and stop using them lol. Only plastics I bought this year were arsenal assualt bugs because I used up my one bag last year I bought to try and some Yum pulses because I didn’t have a lot of soft swim baits. I am getting smarter in theory as I age.

Ya, my backstock is extras from giftings I've gotten.

"Oh, someone sent me a bag of Cabelas Action Tails in Watermelon Red Flake...um already got a bag...into the box it goes."

"Oh, they sent me 3 bags of this in the same color - 2 into the box."

Etc...

Mine's 3-stage as well...sort of

1) Winter storage (see pic above)

2) Spring bagging - BPS Extreme Qualifier 3700 and Plano Z 3700 for the tackle, Cabelas and BPS Advanced Angler II Large (one each) for the plastics

3) Shore fishing - sort some stuff into 3600 boxes, Plano Weekender or one of the AA-II bags depending on how much I want to take with.

Mine is maybe a 5 stage

Stage 1 Backstock to fill bags

Stage 2 river/creek shore bag Cabelas 3500 green bag that alternates trout and bass gear

Stage 3 3700 hydro flow box with a handful of river and lake baits for the kayak.

Stage 4 3600 size cabelas bag for cranks and shoe box of rigged plastics for local lakes with boat.

Stage 5 magnum cabelas bag and a couple of KVD Plano speed bags for bagged plastics plus a 3500 Plano terminal tackle bag. Plus incidentals like line and energy drinks for morning trips.

Stage 5 is my baby lol

Well I was at home quarantined for 14 days so while I was home I decided to work on my fishing room in the basement and get all of my stuff out of the closet and better organized in the basement.  Built a shelf that was 5ft long and 18" deep this is now where my soft plastics in their totes sit, built another shelf that was 24" long and 15" deep and this is where all my tackle trays and stuff that usually goes in the boat are now stored.  Also built a 6ft long table to put my tying vice on and to be able to work on tackle and rods and reels.  Last but not least built a rod rack big enough to put about 20 rods and reels on, still have quite a few open slots!?  Sorry would post picks but I can't seem to figure that out!  haha
